A Flat Tire, Two Boxes, And An Election

I think that basically sums up the highlights of my day.

Today was my first Bike To Work Week bike ride. My rear tire seemed a little low when I was getting ready to leave, so I put some air in it, and was on my way. I stopped again along the trail to put more air in, but eventually, the damn thing went completely flat. I ended up walking with my bike the last little bit to work. BAH! One of the guys at work checked it out, determined I had a tear in the inner tube, so I took the wheel down to the bike shop and had them put a new one on ($5 for the tube, $8 in labour! Can you believe that?!). My office mate drove me there, and we grabbed lunch – sandwiches at the grocery store. No pics of that, but I did pick up a new jar of Peanut Butter & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl (and convinced the coworker to try out the Dark Chocolate Dreams).

Although I didn’t bring lunch to work, I did bring a couple of snacks. Yogurt with frozen raspberries & hemp seeds, and a Coconut Cream Pie Larabar.

The yogurt combo remains uneaten, in my fridge at home. I did nibble on the Larabar throughout the day at my desk though. The sandwich I had (cappicola and salami on ciabatta – heaven) was stupidly filling. I probably didn’t need the Larabar, but you know…coconut & me. How could I resist?!

My bike ride home was SO MUCH BETTER than to work. It was at least 10 min shorter, and significantly easier. It’s amazing what a properly inflated tire can do for your ride! I’m sure tomorrow will be great 🙂

I dropped my bike off at home, and walked down to my polling station to get my vote on. Proof I completed my civic duty:

Then it was back home, and off to the grocery store to get some food – my fridge was looking sparse after my absence this weekend.

How cute are these little acorn squash? Perfect for a single gal – and only $0.59/lb!

I also mentioned I had a couple of packages waiting for me on my doorstep when I got home. Let’s check them out – contents of package number 1:

Uh…plain white mystery package? It’s a sample that a survey company sent me, to try out some product for them, and report back. What was inside, you may ask?

food 3558

Whoppers! Yum! Free chocolate – how can you go wrong? 😀 Don’t worry, I didn’t devour the whole bag, although it was tempting.

Then I dug into my second package.

It was my prize from the Kingslake & Crane giveaway that Sarah from Mom On The Run was hosting. Holy granola batman! I didn’t realize I was going to get all those sampler packs – how awesome! I’m set for all my granola needs for awhile now 🙂

So eventually, my hunger returned, and I made myself a light dinner.

food 3551

Spring mix/romaine lettuce with strawberries, goat cheese, walnuts, and cranberry peppercorn vinaigrette.

food 3554

Toast with smashed up avocado and Laughing Cow.

Dinner totally hit the spot, especially the toast with the avocado & Laughing Cow. I think it’s better than garlic bread – and that’s saying something!

Now I’m sitting here, watching the election results (as I have been all night), thinking about how I should do the dishes piled up in my sink. Or perhaps I should just hit the sack, so I have some energy to bike in the morning. I must say, my legs don’t really want to get going first thing in the morning! I’m so not a morning person. Either way, it’s time for me to end this. I hope you all had a good Tuesday – “see ya” in the morning 😉
