It’s All About Me

Today was a total “me” day, and it was great! I had no where I had to be, no evening plans, so I just went about my day how I saw fit. And looks like tomorrow will be more of the same. A “me” weekend!

I hit up my usual grocery shopping places – The Root Cellar, Thrifty’s, and Market On Yates. I didn’t buy too much out of the ordinary. Just this blogger favourite.

I was wandering through the large produce bins at The Root Cellar, as I always do when I first get there, and noticed a sign that said “Kabocha squash – $.88/lb”. Sweet! I’ve never seen it at the market before today, so I happily grabbed a small one to take home with me. Now I get to see what all this hype is about.

I did a good job money wise shopping this week. I hadn’t done any grocery shopping for 2 weeks, since I was away last weekend, so I knew it was going to be a big shop. I still managed to only spend $75, which is perfectly in the budget. That might seem like alot for someone who lives on their own, but understand that both Victoria & Vancouver are pricey cities to live in. Plus I stocked up on a couple things that were on sale. I figure better to buy a couple now and save a little in the long run 🙂

Once I got home from all this shopping fun, it was time eat. I decided to try out a package of Vega Smoothie Infusion. I loosely followed the recipe on the back of the package:

  • 1 banana
  • frozen mango
  • 4 ice cubes
  • Happy Planet Mango Peach Party
  • Vega Smoothie Infusion
  • water

Hmmm. Looks like those green monsters that everyone loves, but I think are only okay. But green is one of my favourite colours.

Frothy eh? I left that baby in my Magic Bullet for a loooong time – those ice cubes are a pain in the rear to blend up!

So, on first sip, I thought it tasted like ass. I started to think I was going to have to throw it out, and I hate wasting food. So I kept drinking, and the flavour grew on me. I think the banana and mango flavours started to come through more, which helped mask the grass taste. I did finish the whole thing, and I didn’t hate it. But I still think I like my greens & smoothies better when they are independent from each other. Perhaps if I’d used the berries as suggested on the package instead of mango I would have felt different? But I don’t really like berries & banana together, so who knows. I’ll finish off the packages, but I can’t say I’ll be running out to buy it anytime soon.

I then spent some time kickin’ it with Dr Mario, as well as some invisible Rice Works Sea Salt Rice Crisps. After all that food was at a proper digestion stage for physical activity, I headed out on a bike ride. Oh, how I enjoy riding my bike when the weather is nice and I have no timetable to worry about. I biked out to Mattick’s Farm and back, just to give myself a destination. I made it home just in time – some nasty black clouds were starting to roll in, and it did end up raining later on this evening!

After some laundry, news, blog reading, and messenger chatting, I figured it was dinner time. I dug out some vegetable gyoza from the freezer, and paired them with a veggie & rice noodle stirfry.

The stirfry contained broccoli, red pepper, green onion, celery, garlic, portabella mushrooms, and coleslaw mix. I added the rice noodles, and sauced it up with some soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a spicy stirfry sauce hiding in my fridge. Then I topped it with some cashews and sesame seeds.

I haven’t had stirfry in so long! This was a really good one too 🙂 Good thing I have leftovers!

I don’t even know what I did the rest of the evening. Dishes, that’s for sure. And more laundry – it’s never ending. A few food prep things, and some blog reading? I must be getting old – I can’t even remember what I did a few hours ago.

Good thing I have pictures of my awesome dessert.

So Delicious Vanilla Bean Coconut Milk Ice Cream, fresh BC raspberries, chocolate chips, and a little caramel drizzle. Oh yeah baby.

Finally, I have fresh raspberries back in my life. I refuse to pay the ridiculous amount of money for fresh raspberries when the BC ones aren’t in season. So when they finally hit stores, I am there to enjoy these tart little wonders. Raspberries are definitely my favourite berry, which is good, because these little buggars do not keep. Guess I’ll just have to mow through them asap 😉

They also had BC strawberries at the market, but I couldn’t buy any, as I’m trying to figure out if they are causing my weird hives/bumps (which still have not gone away – at least I don’t have any new ones). They’ll only be around for a short time too, and I have to miss out 😦 Boo-urns!

Well boys & girls, it’s about that time where I say good bye to you, and enjoy the rest of my Saturday evening. After all, it’s all about me today 😉

Fresh raspberries and ice cream are the beeest! I also love carmel sauce on ice cream. Your dinner looks great, I’ve always wanted to try those “pot stickers” or whatever they’re called. Ah, yet another blogger who has got their hands on Kabocha! I’m jealous! Everyone is raving about it but I haven’t seen it at any grocery store here yet. I wonder what it would be called in Swedish? Maybe they have it, I just don’t recognize it because it’s called something else?

Me days totally rock sometimes…I’m actually one of those people who need to be around people most of the time (as long as they don’t talk too much), but always appreciate one day that’s all about meee!!! I love your stir fry!! GAWD it looks so professional!!! I have veggie dumplings in my freezer too, but they’ve been there since…i don’t wanna say. hahahah

Hope your Sunday is just as wonderful as your Saturday Marianne!!

I need a new blender so I can make yummy smoothies. Whenever I add ice cubes to my mixes my blender starts smelling like it’s being over-worked. I don’t have a fridge that breaks my ice cubes into crushed cubes, so whole cubes is all I can use! A new blender, or a magic bullet :), is a must for me!
