Black Velvet

When I was doing my weekly shop at the produce market, there was a fruit that caught my eye from across the room. I couldnโ€™t quite see the label on it, so I had to wander over to check it out.

A black apricot? Iโ€™ve never seen that before! It almost looks like a plum, but has the fuzzy skin of an apricot. They had quite a few that were ripe and ready to eat, so I figured why not pick one and up and give it a go. I decided to make it the star of breakfast this morning ๐Ÿ™‚

I soaked some muesli last night in milk, then added yogurt, vanilla, macadamia nut butter, the black velvet apricot, and some raspberries.

There was a glass of Happy Planet Mango Peach Party, but it was late to the photo shoot.

The black apricot has a really subtle flavour โ€“ I donโ€™t know that I would even recognize it as an apricot if you didnโ€™t tell me. It almost looks like a plum inside, but doesnโ€™t taste like one (which is good โ€“ I donโ€™t really like plums). It was a nice addition to my muesli, and went well with the raspberries. I donโ€™t know that I would buy them regularly, as they are pricey compared to the local apricots, but itโ€™s always fun to try out something new ๐Ÿ™‚

Time to pack my lunch and hop on the bike to get to work. Have a great Monday everyone ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    I just had a black velvet the other day–new to me, too! It tasted rather like a cross between apricots and plums…but definitely had the texture of an apricot. Yum!
