And I Thought 32 Was Hot

Today the official high temperature in Victoria was – get this – 35 degrees Celsius. *insert melting Marianne here* For my readers south of the boarder, this is about 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Freakin’ hot, especially for around here. And you should have seen the haze – it was disgusting. I don’t think I’ve ever seen haze like that in Victoria. I can only imagine how bad it was in Vancouver.

Despite the poor air quality and intense heat, I still managed to get in my bike rides to and from work. The one on the way to work was almost pleasant. I was pretty toasty on the way home, but I survived, and made a bee line for the bathtub when I got in the door.

Are you ready for another repetitive lunch? Yup, pasta salad AGAIN. But I only put the shrimp in it this time, no feta. Talk about getting wild & crazy!

I totally should have passed on adding the shrimp this morning though. Although they smelled fine, I think they were starting to go off, because I did not enjoy them as I was eating lunch. I ended up picking around them and tossing a bit of the salad, because it was not making for a happy tummy. Fortunately, I didn’t get sick – food poisoning + hot weather does not sound like fun.

Tonight was boot camp, and we were meeting at my skating coach’s house to do circuit training again (which I love). This of course meant that there would be beverages and hot tubbing afterwards, so I knew I would be home until quite late. Alas, I had to eat dinner earlier than I would have liked, balancing eating enough food with not eating so much that I would feel sick while at boot camp. I think I did a pretty good job.

It started with an open faced sandwich – Silver Hills “The Big 16” bread, roasted red pepper hummus, avocado, and sharp white cheddar.

Even as I was eating this at 6 pm, it was almost too much. I blame that on the heat though, because I never felt weighed down or icky at boot camp. Score!

And yes, there were ciders consumed and perhaps a mini revel ice cream treat as well. As well as some hot tub soaking, which isn’t as bad an idea on a hot day as you think. When you get out, it seems that much cooler outside (even though it was still 27 C at 10 pm).

I think I’ve finally got my place cooled off enough to consider sleeping, so that’s what I’m going to do. Night!

    When I was in Florida it was about 99 degrees and we LOVED getting in the hot tub, for the same reason you just said. It sounds crazy, but it really made the weather feel tolerable!

    The open faced sandwich looks divine! I’m all about the open faced sandwich, especially when they have avocado slices. Yum.

    I’m still jealous of your heat although today and tomorrow are looking like 25*C here. Your meal does look perfect for a night of activity in the heat and hot tubbing sounds like the perfect ending!

    Good for you for sticking to your bike routine! That is quite a commitment in that heat! Your open-faced sandwich looks so great. All of my favorites.
