Almost Goodbye

Tonight was my official going away party from work, and boy, it was good times. The sun even came out, but it was a little too chilly to sit out on the patio. Before we get to that though, let’s back track to lunch.

I brought along a really simple lunch, because I knew what was coming up this evening *cough*drinks from coworkers*cough*.

I may have taken a quick walk up the hill while I was at work, and wandered into the store as I had a little chocolate craving. This jumped into my hands, made me pay for it, and came back to the office with me.

I was relatively busy at work. I feel obligated to get as many things finished before I leave, even though I know I can’t do it all. I did leave a little early though so I could take my car home, and walk down to the party destination – Glo Restaurant & Lounge.

I met up with my coworkers, and started in on the fun. It was a rather low key evening, but I had my fair share of drinks – apparently a going away/birthday party is a good reason for people to buy you shots. HA! And this is why I didn’t bring my car.

What did I have for dinner? This fabulous pizza.

This also came with a beautiful side salad of baby greens, mandarin oranges, tomato, cucumber & toasted cashews tossed in the house honey whiskey vinaigrette. I ate the whole salad, and half the pizza (as evidenced by the leftovers photos). Both the salad and pizza were excellent – tons of great flavours complementing & contrasting with each other, keeping your mouth happy the whole time. If I had to have one gripe – I could do without the mozzarella on the pizza. Or at least a little less, it was almost cheese overkill. And I love cheese, so that’s saying something.

Both of these paired great with my mojitos…and shots. And complementary crème brûlée dessert that the restaurant brought me, with a candle in it and everything! Can you believe I’ve never had crème brûlée until now? And I call myself a foodie. I think I know why I’ve always avoided it – in grade 6 we had this lunch at school where we all brought in French dishes for the class. Someone made crème caramel, and I didn’t like it. So I always associated the two, when really, they are not the same thing. I will no longer fear the brûlée!

But, it wasn’t only dinner & drinks. There were presents! Really, what’s a birthday shin dig without a few gifts, right?

Work gave me this funky bag – a school bag perhaps?

It’s a good size, has a ton of pockets, and is the perfect colour palette for me 😀 But the best part? The outside is PVC. As in waterproof (and spill proof). Considering how much rain we get in Vancouver, this is a big selling feature. Fashion + function = great gift!

But that’s not the only gift.

OH NO! CUPCAKE CATASTROPHE!!!

As tispy as I may have been, I would like to point out that this travesty was not my doing. When they were presented to me, this had already occurred. You can actually see where I tried to upright a couple in the restaurant, but realized that there was no classy way of fixing up that icing without some kitchen equipment. After I got them home, I performed some intense emergency surgery, and managed to put them back together…sort of.

Okay, so the icing doesn’t look pretty, but at least I got most of it back on the cake.

So, what we have here is one of each of the flavours that Ooh La La cupcakes makes. Starting with the top row, going from left to right, you will find the following flavours:

  • Twist & Shout (lemon with raspberry filling)
  • Ooh La La (chocolate with cherry buttercream)
  • Kiss Me (I’m Irish) (chocolate & mint)
  • French Kiss (chocolate with mocha icing)
  • Pure Decadence (chocolate with truffle ganache)
  • Just Vanilla
  • Pink Ballerina (vanilla with strawberry icing)
  • Monkey Business (banana with cream cheese icing)
  • Nuttin’ Butter (chocolate with peanut butter frosting)
  • Triple Bypass (chocolate with caramel filling, buttercream, caramel drizzle, skor bits)
  • Coconut Cloud (vanilla with meringue, coconut)
  • mystery cupcake – chocolate, buttercream, coconut

Uh yeah, so I’m totally taking these into work tomorrow. There is no way I could possibly eat all 12 of these bad boys. I do think I’m going to keep a few at home for myself though 😉 I know the Nuttin’ Butter is staying, and I’m pretty sure the Twist & Shout. I’m considering the Coconut Cloud as a 3rd one, but we’ll see. I’m going to set up tasting plates tomorrow with all the cupcakes I take in cut up so lots of people can try them. Aren’t I the nicest person ever? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

After I got home, I was tipsy & tired, so I may have laid on the couch watching So You Think You Can Dance, or possibly napping. HA! I’ve been downing water like it’s going out of style all evening too. And no, I haven’t broken into the cupcakes – I’m on good food overload. Which makes me think it’s time for bed.

My question to you – which cupcake would you want to try the most? 😀

    looks like you had a great time at your party! and those cupcakes look RIDICULOUS!! i don’t think i could choose just 2 or 3 to keep for myself– you are soooo much stronger and more generous than i am haha 😉

    That bag is super cute and functional. What a great gift. As fas as cupcakes go I would go with the Coconut Cloud or the French Kiss. I love meringne and mocha!

    There are too many to choose!! They are so pretty, I’d feel bad eating them…BUT if I had to choose….I like the mint chocolate and of course the nuttin’ butter 🙂

    That was so nice of your coworkers to get you gifts, what a cute bag! Oh, and the gouda pizza looks outstanding.

    I would try the Monkey business one! But the lemon with raspberry sounds so summery and the plain vanilla is always a good standby. Those cakes look delish and your pizza sounds amazing!

    Mmmm hazelnuts and dark chocolate – excellent! Wait I take that back! Mojitos and cashews on pizza – EXCELLENT!

    I’d have to go with French Kiss or Nuttin’ Butter 😀 Have fun taste testing!! I expect a detailed report!
