Kitchen Invasion

Another long day has come and gone in this week leading up to the big move. Today was carpet cleaning day, and it pretty much put packing on hold all day! Grrrrr. Who knew carpet took FOREVER to dry? Seriously, it’s 11:30 pm and it’s still damp. Le sigh.

Want to see how much of a disaster my kitchen was today? Check it out.

That’s basically all my furniture, other than the bed & couch, crammed into that room. And it stayed that way until almost 5 pm when I got fed up and wanted access to my food. HA!

Sienna didn’t seem to phased by all the boxes in her windowsill.

So, how did I spend my day, seeing as my suite was a write off? Well, after the carpet cleaner left, I biked on down to the gym for a little fun. After I got home, I cleaned myself up, and it was time to head into work for some lunch with coworkers. What did we have for lunch? POUTINE! There is a little French Canadian restaurant near my old work, and they make authentic diner poutine. It’s soooo good. Not to mention, Tuesdays are Poutine Tuesday, where you get 2 smalls for $8.50. Gotta love that. We took orders, called it in, then picked it up and enjoyed our fries smothered in cheese curds and gravy. It’s all about those squeaky cheese curds. Yum!

After that, I came home and felt the need for something sweet. Good thing I still had some of these in the fridge.

I decided on the coconut cupcake today. It has a meringue type frosting, which looked too good to pass up.

I thought the cake was vanilla, but turns out it had coconut in it as well. Score! This cupcake tasted like a fresh macaroon, and was very moist for a cupcake that was almost a week old.

After hanging out outside with a book while I waited in vain for the carpets to dry, I gave up and started moving some furniture back in. I was going through computer withdrawal! I just used a little styrofoam under all the pieces of furniture so the air could continue to circulate. Then I plopped myself on the couch, and promptly fell asleep for 35 min or so. Oops!

That little nap was totally needed, but put me behind schedule as I was heading out again. I still wasn’t super hungry for dinner, so I grabbed a quick bite. I call it first dinner.

A bowl full of popcorn and a nectarine. As random as it seemed, it worked. Plus it took no time to make or consume.

Why was I in a rush? I was off to my friend’s place for another evening of Rockband. What can I say, we’re trying to get in as much as we can before I go. We didn’t stay up that late, I was home before 11 pm. And lo and behold, I was hungry again. Time for second dinner – or what I should have made before I went out.

I threw together a quick salad of red leaf lettuce, cucumber, carrot, raspberries, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, a chopped up wedge of Laughing Cow, and Annie’s Raspberry Vinaigrette. I would have added avocado as well, but the half I had in my fridge wasn’t looking so hot.

I threw some Rice Works wasabi rice crisps in a bowl for a little crunch component.

I also finished off the homemade iced tea, so I think I’m going to make some more before I head to bed. And get a little bit of packing done, since I’m still wide awake – napping in the early evening always does that to me.

Can’t say up too late though – tomorrow is a big day *cough* 30th birthday *cough* – and I have plans galore, including a wicked awesome breakfast. See you in the morning, a little bit older, and hopefully a bit wiser 😉 Night!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Wow, the big 3-0?? Nick turned 30 in January and it was like his life had ended, but come ON, 30 is the new 20! I hope you had fun last night.

Good call eating a bit before you head out. I have friends who don’t do that, simply so they don’t feel guilty when they drink or eat while out, but I think that’s sort of stupid.

The coconut vanilla cupcake looks GREAT! The meringue frosting is something I’ve never seen on a cupcake. Very unique.

Happy birthday! Thankfully, we changed all our carpet to wood. No more carpet cleaning for me.
