Hiatus Over!

Hello there blogworld! Yes, it’s true, I am finally back in blogging action. I’m not fully settled in (or unpacked), but I think I’ve managed to catch up on sleep, so it’s time to get back on the computer to entertain you all with my wit, charm, and eats 😉

When I plugged in my camera today, I realized I only have food for you from Thursday last week, so that’s what you are getting today 🙂 Better late than never, right?

I was still working on eating up the last off the food in my fridge this day, so looks like breakfast was a yogurt mess.

Let’s see if I remember everything in there:

  • yogurt
  • raspberries (fresh and frozen)
  • granola
  • flax seed
  • chia seeds
  • peanut butter

There could be more, but my brain is getting old 😉

On the side there was a mug of homemade herbal iced tea.

I met some friends for lunch downtown, at this little Japanese deli type place I had never been to, called Daidoco. They are a lunch only place, with a small menu of mostly local & organic sourced ingredients. Very fresh, light, and tasty. I had the special, which was steamed lingcod served in a light broth, with a fresh vegetable medley of steamed greens (not sure what kind), carrots, and cucumber. I ordered a side of organic brown rice to go with it, and it was the perfect light lunch. Why did I not discover this place sooner while I was living in Victoria?! Oh well, I’m sure I’ll be back one day. It definitely has to go on my top eats list for the city.

There was one more cupcake in my fridge, and it needed to fulfill its destiny.

It was a lemon cupcake with a raspberry filling, topped with a rich lemony frosting (buttercream I think). Even though it was a week old at this point, the cake was still moist, and the frosting was not dried out at all. Big thumbs up.

And yes, I was still trying to use up the damn raspberries.

More Snacks

Thursday was also the one day of the year that I head on down to Dairy Queen and order a blizzard. Every August, they have a day where all proceeds from blizzard sales go to a local charity that benefits Children’s Hospital, so I figure it’s the right day to treat myself to some DQ fun.

It was pouring with rain and not exactly ice cream weather, but I was doing it for the kids! My friend picked me up on his way home from work, and we each grabbed a small blizzard. My flavour of choice – Crispy Crunch.

Dessert before dinner 😉

In a last ditch effort to use up anything fresh in my fridge, I created this plate of food. It started with a salad of red leaf lettuce, cucumber, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, turkey feta & spinach meatballs, and Annie’s Raspberry Vinaigrette.

One last carrot, sliced up into sticks.

And one last spelt zucchini muffin with some lovely melty butter.

So what else have I been up to since then? Well, I was up until 4 AM Friday morning packing & cleaning. I got about 3 hours sleep, and was back up and at it before heading out to pick up my family, the truck, and doing that whole moving thing. We got back to my parents’ place around 7 pm, ordered some pizza, and called it a night. Saturday I tried to catch up on some sleep, moved some boxes around, set up the computer and got it networked with the rest of the computers here, then I was off to the Kings of Leon concert (good concert, but our seats were surrounded by idiot concert goers – I had beer spilled on my 3 times by the people behind me!). Sunday was more sleeping & doing nothing, and ended in a trip to the movie theatre to see Julie & Julia. It was entertaining. I’m sure I could have waited to see it on dvd though – it’s not exactly the kind of movie that needs the big screen to be effective.

As for today, well, you’ll just have to wait & see 😉

Yum, turkey, feta, and spinach meatballs?? Sounds yummy! And, I’m a die hard Dairy Queen fan, and if the money goes to charity what a great excuse to purchase a blizzard! My favorite is the peanut butter cup blizzard.

Glad you’re all settled in. Now for the fun part, unpacking!

Welcome back! I saw Kings of Leon on Sunday, and noticed quite a few people who had trouble standing up…sitting up, even! Great show though.

Yay for your return! Good luck finishing all of your unpacking. I know from experience that it takes a lot longer than you want it to 🙂

I haven’t had a DQ Blizzard in far too long. My favorite? Reese’s PB Cup!!

Welcome back! I hope the rest of your unpacking isn’t too painful. I like the looks of that Blizzard–have you tried the limited edition Thin Mint flavor?
