Since Christmas…

I’ve eaten a bunch of food, as I’m sure most of you have as well (hey, it’s been 5 days!) I thought I’d share it with you, recap style, so we can finally get back to some sort of blogging normalcy. Actually, scratch that – I promise nothing until 2010 rolls around 😉

So what tasty morsels have graced my palate in the past few days?

When you don’t host Christmas dinner, you don’t have any leftovers! And you still have the motivation to cook real meals – here’s our Boxing Day feast of pork tenderloin with a citrus/white wine reduction, steamed broccoli & brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, and leftover Christmas salad.

IMG_4201

Did I mention there was wine in the reduction? We couldn’t let an open bottle go to waste.

IMG_4205

You’d think with all this time off I’d be on the oatmeal bandwagon like it was going out of style. And yet, this is it’s only appearance since Christmas.

IMG_4219

Not one to let leftovers go to waste, soft taco/burritos made for a good lunch.

IMG_4248

An invite out to watch PPV hockey with my friend’s husband = pizza. Manly pizza. Hey, I couldn’t complain – he was buying!

IMG_4254

Although, for all the manly pizza, we drank girly Caesars, since neither of us drink beer. Please also note the paper towels as napkins. Classy.

IMG_4252

Smoothies make a great breakfast when you come down with a sore throat.

IMG_4258

Especially when paired with leftover Christmas Day cinnamon pull apart.

IMG_4256

In need of a quick lunch? Grilled cheese hits the spot. I like the juxtaposition between the hearty sprouted grain bread (fibre!) and the processed cheese (chemicals!). It’s all about balance.

IMG_4261

And it paired ever so nicely with a side of gigantic crossword…I mean, pineapple and pickles.

IMG_4263

I haven’t neglected my cereal.

IMG_4264

Nor my peanut butter, seen here chillin’ with apples and cucumber.

IMG_4269

I rescued a lonely multigrain bagel, and showed it some love with herb & garlic cream cheese.

IMG_4270

And there was white flesh sweet potato

IMG_4274

…and salmon loaf

IMG_4275

…and corn & peas. OH MY!

IMG_4276

You better believe I’ve consumed my weight in chocolates.

IMG_4180

IMG_4207

And made good work on all those baked goods I’ve shown you.

I think the only thing missing is an evening of fondue – cheese & chocolate – put on my a friend’s family. They are from Switzerland, and let me tell you, they know how to do fondue. Not to mention they have the most awesome kitchen ever. I want to move in with them.

One more noteworthy thing – I’ve started training at my job at the produce market. Monday & Tuesday I had shifts to work on learning all those damn produce codes. And I’ve discovered that the place is FREEZING. I may need to invest in a parka. I’m not really sure how I’m going to like the job, as evidenced by me sending out applications to about 5 other places Tuesday. But at least it’s something for now, right?

Okay wonderful blog readers. We’re all caught up. I have things a’ brewing in my noggin’ for the upcoming year. I hope you continue read and enjoy. If I don’t “see” you before hand, have a wonderful New Years!

Oh man! Fondue?! I’m kind of glad there aren’t pictures of melty cheese and chocolate – that would be too much to handle!
