2010 – Looking Ahead

As promised, I thought I would bring you my set of goals for the new year. Sure, I’m a week late, but who’s counting? I’m sure you are all sick of reading these on everyone’s blogs, but humour me for a moment or two 🙂

  1. Get into the dietetics program – this really has to be my number one goal. It’s the whole reason I went back to school, and UBC only allows you two applications to the program. I don’t want the added stress of having to apply again, and delaying my graduation by a year. So there it is. I’m going to prove why I’m one of the top 30 applicants, and I’m getting in.
  2. Get back in the kitchen – I’ve done  minimal cooking since I’ve moved home. It’s been too easy to let mom cook for me, but I miss trying out new recipes, or just throwing together something that sounds like a good idea. My body misses the foods I cook, because they are somewhat different from what my family eats on a regular basis. I will make the time to get in the kitchen.
  3. Sleep – I am constantly tired, and waking up at 5:30 am is not helping. I will never become a morning person, but I need to make a concerted effort to get in bed on time more often. It will help me feel better, and help me learn better, therefore helping me achieve my first goal. I’m aiming for a minimum of 6 hours – hey, it’s more than I was normally getting.
  4. Get back on the ice – I miss skating oh so much. I really do. I want to get back on the ice sometime this year, even if it’s just for some sessions in the spring. Ultimately, I would love to skate a whole season and compete, but with finances up in the air, and not knowing how intense school will be next year, I have to be realistic. If I can skate spring sessions, that’s better than nothing.
  5. Read for pleasure – I have stacks of books and magazines that I just never get around to reading. I don’t even want to admit how long I’ve had some of the books. Something always gets in the way of me sitting down and just reading for fun. The plan is to utilize my commute time on the train & bus better this year, and get in some reading. Perhaps instead of sleeping, since I’ll be getting more sleep each night 🙂
  6. Move more – it’s so easy to use school work as an excuse to stay inside, sitting in a chair, not doing much. It is hard to make time in the day though to get to the gym, with my early mornings, classes, and now work, but I’m going to try and fit in what I can when I can, without getting obsessed with getting so many hours at the gym per week or whatever.
  7. Write up a 10 year plan – I think I saw this on another blog, but I don’t remember where. I’ve also see the inspiration boards people have made up, and I think that’s not quite my style. But writing out where I see myself in 10 years seems like something I could do. It will probably be very broad sounding, but to have that 10 year picture in your head can help you to set mini goals along the way to reach that ultimate picture.
  8. Ultimately, focus on balance – that’s what was seriously missing this past semester, and all of the goals I’ve listed above are about regaining balance in all aspects of my life.

So there you have it! It seems like alot, but nothing that isn’t attainable. I think because I don’t have concrete amounts of anything to achieve, it’s realistic for my life and situation right now. Here’s to a great 2010!

Best of luck on all your goals for 2010!!!

I want to write up a plan for my future goals as well! I have a few different career goals I would like to pursue and I can’t decide which way to go. If only choosing was the hardest part… 🙂

I love these, and they are most certainly attainable, and they all see to be things that will make you very happy in the long run.

Reading for fun and cooking are both on my list!
