Saturday Night Live

Well, I guess technically, it’s now Sunday morning, but let’s go with it 😉

I was so glad I had no shifts scheduled this weekend at the produce market. It’s nice to get to enjoy a whole weekend after that first week back at school, what with all the early mornings I still haven’t gotten my body used to. As I’m sure you can guess, I allowed myself a leisurely sleep in, although not that late – I was up by 10 am.

I took the opportunity to make a breakfast I don’t like to prepare during the week – a smoothie. Since I’m up before the rest of my family, I don’t want to wake them up with the noise from the Magic Bullet.

I had my usual smoothie combo:

  • 1 banana
  • scoop of vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup oats
  • milk

My sister was eating an egg & English muffin sammie, and the muffin looked damn good, so I toasted one up, and topped it with a little raspberry jam.

The day is always better when you start off with something tasty for breakfast.

My morning was very laid back – I browsed random articles in the newspaper, checked out the flyers, and caught up on some interwebbing. Eventually my mom announced she was going to the gym, so I took that as a cue it was time to get up and do something.

We made our way to the gym, and I spent time on all the usual cardio machines. I swear, the have the heat cranked in that place every time I’m there. It might be cold outside, but when you have many people working up a sweat, the place is not going to be cold.

By the time we got home, I was definitely hankering for some lunch. I came up with another leftovers creation.

There was a small amount of creamy tomato soup left in the fridge, so I combined it with some leftover basmati rice, steamed broccoli, and sweet chili chicken.

Mixed in some black pepper and garlic powder, heated in the microwave, and topped with a little shredded aged white cheddar.

Plus it cleared out some of the many leftovers we have accumulated in the fridge. I swear, I’m the only one who tries to make sure we don’t throw them out. I’m such a good daughter 😉

I had a little lunch dessert, in the form of a chocolate.

And then brewed up some green tea, as my throat had been sore since I woke up.

As you can see, my dad has been making progress on his Beatles puzzle. It’s all black and white, so it’s not exactly the easiest. And he has to get it done before the 23rd, as we’re hosting my mom’s 60th birthday party then – we need the dining room table back.

I made a quick run up to the grocery store (my beloved Happy Planet was on the sale, plus we needed some other essentials), took a soak in the hot tub, then settled in for an evening of hockey.

Game day eats were on the menu for dinner.

Good ol’ hot dogs. I had mine in a whole wheat bun (higher in fibre, 40 less calories, 100+ less grams of sodium than the equivalent store baked white buns), topped with salsa, chopped onion, and shredded cheddar.

And a few salty, delicious potato chips.

Unfortunately, my Canucks lost the game tonight, but it was an exciting game to watch. I followed it with some Wii, and a snack.

I crumbled a Cocoa Banana Muffin, then topped it with a little plain, non-fat yogurt, pomegranate arils, chocolate chips, and coconut flakes. I love how decadent this looks!

Believe me, this snack didn’t just have looks going for it – it was a palate pleaser as well.

I’ve been sitting here, enjoying some SNL (hence the title inspiration), but it’s soon to be over, so I’m off to hit the sack. I have plans to get things done tomorrow. Hope you all had a great Saturday. Night!

    all your food looks so delicious! question: do you count calories? and if you don’t mind me asking, have you ever struggled with your weight? because it seems like you’re able to enjoy some decadent treats and still maintain. jus’ wondering!

    I’ve never tried oats in a smoothie before. Does it affect it taste-wise?

    Glad you had a weekend off for some relaxing, the early morning would definitely get to me! 🙂
