A Day Of Countdowns

Not only was today the 7 month countdown to my birthday (who counts down from 7 months?), but in exactly one month, Vancouver will be welcoming the world at the Opening Ceremonies of the 21st Winter Olympics. Are we ready? I sure hope so – I think I need to take a trip downtown to check out all the banners and whatnot around the city. I can only imagine the buzz in the city once the Games are actually here.

I started off my countdown day with a real cheerleader of a breakfast.

Cheerleader of a breakfast? I know, it doesn’t make sense…but stay with me. Especially if you appreciate cheesy names.

I had a bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch, Nature’s Path Mesa Sunrise, pomegranate seeds, hemp seeds, and coconut flakes.

And a glass of POM Wonderful Pomegrante Juice.

Double POM. Or, as I’m calling it, the “Pom Pom Breakfast”. Get it? Pompoms? Cheerleaders? Games?

You can all stop groaning now.

I also packed up a lunch for munching in class. It started with a sandwich: Silver Hills “The Big 16” sprouted grain bread, chicken, hummus, and pickle.

A locally grown kiwi (yes, we have a small crop of kiwi fruit in BC).

After class, I made a side trip over to Choices Market to take advantage of their awesome deal this week on Larabars – 4 bars for $5! You can’t go wrong with that. I stocked up for the semester, and picked up a couple of other deals, to be revealed later.

I finally found my way home, snacked on a camera shy piece of fresh sourdough bread (mom went grocery shopping this morning), then relaxed in the lounger chair downstairs, with a little Wii. I almost fell asleep a few times while playing – who does that?! But I got a second wind, and managed to not have a nap.

Mom cooked up a tasty little dinner tonight. She tried out a recipe from the newspaper – Whole Wheat Rotini with Kale & Red Peppers (get the recipe here). She did make a couple of changes – she used some wild rice fusili we had around, and accidentally bought feta cheese instead of the goat cheese the recipe called for. Oops! It was still fantastic.

There were also hot Italian sausages.

I totally had more pineapple than that 😉 It was really good!

After the mandatory digestion time, I made my way to the gym for fun on the stairclimber. I timed it wrong though, and got stuck waiting for a train. BAH. I always take the back roads to avoid all the lights, but at that time of night, there is often a really long, slow train that goes through, and sometimes you get stuck for a good 10 min. Good thing my gym stays open til 11 pm, so it’s not like I’m ever in that big of a rush.

Back at home, I got in some ab work, showered, and watched the last half of the Biggest Loser with my sister while having a little nibble on some peanut butter & chocolate chip stuffed medjool dates.

I also managed to bail off the couch this evening, leaving me with rug burn on my ankle and forearm. Don’t ask – I’m just a spaz sometimes. A spaz who still has a head cold, and should probably get to bed. Night!

    marianne…i found your comment on lighter portion’s kristie’s blog…if you are in the vancouver area…go to stongs(dunbar and 26th-ish), whole foods (cambie and broadway), any capers, or even IGA to find the liberte greek yogurt… i just bought one today…$6…but oh soo good!

    Dinner pasta looks great! I’ve never thought to use a spoon to scoop out the kiwi “meat”. Good idea…
