Got Hot Water?

Cuz we sure don’t!

Last night, we realized the pilot light was out on our hot water tank. No biggie, we’ll just go and relight it. Too bad it won’t stay lit anymore. So our house is now without hot water. The upside? The hot water tank is still under warranty. The downside? Sears can’t send someone until January 27th to look at it! Like we’re going without hot water for over a week.

The lack of hot water wasn’t worrisome enough to keep me from sleeping in this morning. It was glorious, let me tell you. And when I woke up, I actually felt refreshed. So nice for a change!

I considered a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, but I wasn’t feeling anything warm for breakfast. So cereal it was.

Food 3 303

A simple bowl of Kashi GoLean Crunch and pomegranate arils.

I also toasted up this lonely little piece of sourdough bread, mostly to keep it from going bad. I topped it with a little peanut butter and raspberry jam.

Food 3 304

And the usual glass of Happy Planet juice – still working on the Tropical Tango.

Food 3 305

And yes, I totally ate breakfast on the living room rug as I enjoyed some PVR’d figure skating.

Food 3 306

I pretty much camped out in my living room all day, watching figure skating that I’d PVR’d, live on TV, and online. Such a hardcore figure skating fan. Eventually a needed a little lunch break.

Food 3 309

Just a piece of that Venetian pizza (genoa salami, spinach, red onion, pesto). Didn’t even bother to heat it up.

Food 3 307

Shortly afterwards, I made my way down to the gym. First, to have a sweat session on the stairclimber, and second, to have a hot shower! Hey, I pay good money for that gym membership, may as well make use of the facilities. Cold showers are not cool (er…actually, they are).

By the time I arrived at home, my parents had already eaten dinner (tuna salad – not my thing, I don’t like tuna with lettuce). I could not think of what I wanted for dinner. My stomach was unhappy for some reason, and nothing was inspiring me. Finally, I decided on something quick and simple.

Food 3 315

I cooked up some whole wheat penne, and sauteed some carrots, broccoli, and mushrooms in a little olive oil, garlic, and freeze dried herb blend, using a little pasta water to steam the veggies while they cooked.

Food 3 313

I tossed the cook pasta in the sautee pan with the veggies, added a little butter for flavour, and some aged white cheddar to pull it all together. Put it on a plate, and dig in!

Food 3 311

I wish we had some parmesan, because it would have been a bit better than the aged white cheddar, but this still hit the spot. Something more along the lines of what I used to cook for myself, back in the day, living on my own. Ah, memories.

As I’m sure you can guess…I watched more skating after dinner. And enjoyed some tea.

Food 3 316

Plus a piece of cinnamon toast – sesame bread, Artisana Coconut Butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar.

Food 3 318

I got in some reading and homework, and even a little blog reading. A nice end to a relaxing Sunday. Hopefully I’ve rejuvenated enough to take on the new week! We’ll find out – after I get some shut eye, which I’m off to do now. Night!

Sorry about your water! We were on a “boil water advisory” for a week and it was no fun. I think not having hot water is worse…maybe they’ll magically be able to fix it sooner than the 27th!

You can also shower at the UBC pool! The same thing happened to my friend so she did that for a week!

Yikes about the water! That’s pretty sucky…you’d think a chain like Sears could do much better than the 27th! Good thing you have the gym!
