Check These Out

I thought I would start sharing some interesting things I come across each week – links to new blogs, articles, websites, businesses. I figure if I find them interesting and useful, someone else might as well πŸ™‚ I still have to come up with a catchy title for this (hopefully) weekly feature, so please, feel free to leave suggestions!

This Weeks Finds

  • Edible Vancouver – I noticed we had copies of their magazine in Sprouts, and started browsing through them while the store was slow. I love this magazine – it’s whole focus is on local food. Everything from farmer’s markets, seasonal recipes, and local businesses producing tasty products. The copy I was reading had an article on a company producing potato vodka here in Pemberton BC – what with my Russian heritage, I was pretty excited to see that, and now must track this stuff down. A must for any Metro Vancouver foodie looking to expand their local eats.
  • Fed Up: School Lunch Project – a new blog where an anonymous teacher has set out to eat the school lunch provided to her students every day in 2010. β€œMrs Q” as she is known, details the experience of eating what is provided to the kids every day, including photos. It’s really fascinating to see what is being passed off for lunch, especially for students who’s lunch may be the only real meal they eat in the day. And for someone who came from a school system where there was no such thing as a school lunch program, it’s particularly intriguing. Check out Mrs Q’s interview over at Small Bites for further information about the project.
  • The Miracle Food – Have you seen these ads on TV (in Canada)? Where they are promoting broccoli as a miracle food? They are so bizarre! The campaign has a whole website full with all the broccoli information you need. Hey, at least it’s a change from the regular fast food/junk food ads, right? If only I could find the videos online to share…

Also, if you aren’t already doing so, you should follow me on Twitter – I often share these kinds of links as I find them. Plus, who doesn’t want more of my wit and charm, in 140 characters or less πŸ˜‰

Happy Wednesday everyone!

That Fed Up is pretty interesting. Kind of like Super Size Me, but about the school cafeteria crap, er… food. :p

I definitely have a copy of edible vancouver, I need some time to look at it.

Those broc commercials are definitely one of a kind! I saw one last night where a skydivers schute doesn’t open and he crashes to the ground…and survives. Then along comes the dude with his “miracle” broccoli. LOL!

    ANyways, thanks for the links!
