Eyes Wide Shut

Today was a struggle – my brain was trying to keep my eyes open, but they kept rebelling all day long. I probably should have had a nap this afternoon, but I’m stubborn, and managed to stay awake, all be it in a lazy state, all day.

I’m not even sure why I was Snoozy McSnoozerson – I had a good sleep, and felt awake when I got up in the morning. Maybe it’s because I knew I was going to have chocolate for breakfast?

Let’s just call this Chocolate Pudding Oatmeal.

  • 1/2 cup oats, milk, water
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • splash of vanilla
  • splash of coconut extract
  • squirt of agave
  • 1 tbsp flax seed
  • Artisana Cacao Bliss
  • chocolate chips
  • coconut flakes

I packed a small lunch today – photographed on my bed, just for a change of scenery.

After dragging through transit, then psychology, I made my way over to cell biology to enjoy lunch. I find I stay awake in class when I eat lunch. Too bad that’s not an option for every class. I will say though – those little kumquats were a bit much on my stomach. Maybe it’s the citric acid? But I got through 5, and I was feeling queasy. Don’t let that deter you from trying them out though – I think my tummy just has a tolerance limit.

I managed to make my way home from school without falling asleep on the bus or train (I’ve done it before, and missed my stop). And I was ready for some snackin’ action when I walked in the door. Featuring this beauty:

Why hello there pretty persimmon! I picked some of these up at work after trying them out at the store.

This one I had let sit out with the bananas to ripen, as I thought that would be a good idea. Here it is all sliced up, and ready to go.

Hmmm…much softer than the one I tried at the store. I didn’t let the fact that it totally looked like inside of a tomato deter me though.

I also had a bowl of Liberté Greek yogurt mixed with peanut butter & agave, topped with a little Kashi GoLean Crunch.

This snack was the whole reason I packed a small lunch. I’d been looking forward to it all day!

So yeah. Apparently you don’t want your persimmon to turn that deep orange colour. I couldn’t deal with the texture, plus I thought it actually had gotten less sweet than the firm ones I had tried. Good thing the other ones I bought are stored safely in the fridge, so they should be ready to eat right away. I still finished it off, but it kept thinking tomato as I did.

I really wanted to get in a work out this afternoon, but since I could barely keep my eyes open, I thought that probably wasn’t in my best interest. No point in risking injury. So I camped in the lounger with some Wii to keep me entertained. I mean…I studied for biochem. Yeah. That’s it.

After all that intense…studying…mom heated up some lasagne for dinner. Hmph. Obviously, I was on my own. I wasn’t hungry when everyone else ate, so I resumed my imitation of a sloth for awhile longer, until hunger struck.

I went simple for dinner.

Tuna sandwich with pickles on Silver Hills “The Big 16” sprouted grain bread.

And a couple of slices of cheese. Because as we all know, I like cheese.

Which turned into two when I had a mug of tea later on in the evening. Mmmm, cookies.

Why I am even still up is beyond me, since I know I’m beyond tired. So on that note, I’m going to bed. Tomorrow is Friday – woot! Why not celebrate by entering to win some Olympic Red Mittens? 😉

    The chocolate oatmeal looks fab. Love dessert for breakfast!

    I tried a persimmon once and it sucked all the “spit” outta my mouth. Wasn’t a fan. My Dad knew that would happen and laughed at my screwed up face! 😉

    Must bake some kale chips. It’s been way too long.

    Hmm, CHOCOLATE OATMEAL, hellz yeah! LOL, I’ve been having that for dinner like two times a week this past couple weeks. :p I’ve been craving chocolate, what can I say?

    Yeah I keep wanting to try a persimmone, but I can’t bring myself to do so… and well yours doesn’t make me want to try one any more… It looks like a tomato! And I like tomatoes… but this isn’t a tomatoe, and it won’t taste like one… just look like one…

    Cheese is required in almost all of my dishes! 😀 I’ve never had a persimmon before – they do look pretty on the outside, but I have a texture thing too.

    I am a big fan of chocolate and coconut in my oats too–I call it Samoas oats (after the Girl Scout cookie). Yours look phenom!

    I’ve never tried a kumquat OR a persimmon… I need to get on to this asap! I’m also in desperate need of some more of the creamy greek goodness. Still not on sale here… doh.
