So This Is A Food Blog

And it’s about time we get back to some regular food posts, dontcha think?

I started off my Saturday with a bit of a sleep in, followed by some greens+ extra energy. Today was day 4 of drinking my greens+, and I’ve upped my intake to two teaspoons.

So far, I haven’t had any of the “side effects” that were possible (phew!), but I haven’t quite gotten up to the full recommended serving – that’s tomorrow.  The taste is sort of growing on me, and I actually don’t mind drinking it each morning. I’ve been having it in place of the glass of juice I usually drink.

After I downed my swamp water, I set out making a berry-licious bowl of oatmeal.

Blueberry Coconut Oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup oats, milk, water
  • 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
  • splash of coconut extract
  • 1 tbsp flax seed
  • Artisana Coconut Butter
  • hemp seeds

Blueberry oats are always such a striking colour.

I watched a little figure skating while waiting for my breakfast to digest a little, then made my way down the gym. Even though my low back/SI joints are messed up, I’m still making the effort to get down there and get my sweat on. I also took the plunge, and signed up for the next series of Zumba classes at my gym. They start after Easter, and go for 6 weeks. I’m pretty excited! Even if can’t dance to save my life.

Once I got home & showered, I threw together a quick lunch.

IMG_6267

I made up a wrap in a whole wheat tortilla with deli turkey, ham, havarti cheese, lettuce, dijon mustard, mayo, and lots of cracked black pepper. Carrot sticks on the side for some crunch.

Dijon mustard is one of my current obsessions. I love the bite that it gives to foods.

I had to make a quick lunch, since I was off to work in the afternoon. Even though I generally only work 4 – 5 hour shifts, they are always over dinner time, and I find myself way too hungry if I don’t take a little something something to eat on my break. Oh sure, I could just buy something seeing as I work at a grocery store, but those extra minutes tracking down the food and paying for it really eat into your break time!

For my snack, I packed another one of my current favourites – Olympic organic plain non-fat yogurt, mixed with peanut butter & maple syrup, topped with sliced strawberries.

I actually had about double the amount of strawberries shown there – I just didn’t add them for the photo, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to see the yogurt!

Work was nothing spectacular – kind of slow actually, probably because it’s spring break for all the kiddies around here and people have started to head out of town.

When I got home, dad was in charge of dinner = take out. And as I’m sure you can imagine, he went for the old stand by, take out Chinese food.

Unlike our usual order though, we started with a little wonton soup.

IMG_6272

There were only two broccoli stalks in the whole container, and only two tiny pieces of BBQ pork. Good thing mom wasn’t having any, otherwise we would have had to fight over them!

Then I piled up a plate with the rest of the goods. Like sweet & sour pork, chicken chow mein, and a spring roll.

And some BBQ pork fried rice, plus beef chop suey (where I basically stole all the vegetables).

IMG_6275

Which paired nicely with a tart, bubbly can of San Pellegrino Limonata.

Of course, there were fortune cookies afterwards.

Mine said “You will do well when you expand your horizons”. Hmmmm….

I watched a little hockey (in the dark in honour of Earth Hour), then enjoyed some ice cream that my mom picked up – it has chocolate flakes and a peanut butter swirl running through it. How can you go wrong?!

Then, because I’m so cool, I watched more PVR’d figure skating while soaking my feet in epsom salts and reading blogs. What a way to spend a Saturday night, eh? In my defence though, I have to work at 8 am tomorrow for a full 8 hour shift, so it’s not like going out and partying was in the cards.

Speaking of which, this blogger needs to find her way to the comforts of her bed. I’ll be waking up way earlier than I’d like to for a Sunday morning. Night!

I love blueberry oats but find them not as sweet unless I add banana as well! Chocolate + pb ice cream = best flavour ever, yum.

All of your food looks incredible! I was also thinking the same thing as Sarah. Are the blueberry oats sweet? Maybe the coconut butter helps! You take beautiful pics by the way 🙂

Blueberry-coconut sounds like such a perfect combination for oatmeal!

    Great looking oats, Marianne!

Sorry to hear that your car accident injury has been acting up. That really bites.
