The greens+ Experiment – Week 1

Okay, technically it’s a week plus 2 days, but who’s counting? 😉

I thought I’d put together a recap each week of how this are going as I start my days with a serving of greens+ extra energy.

You may remember I received the container of greens+ as a prize from a Twitter contest.

Per the included instructions, I monitored my pH for 5 days prior to starting, finding that it normally was in the 6.0 – 6.4 range. Then I started taking the greens+ extra energy daily, working up to the full serving (which is 3 tsp or 1 tbsp). It went something like this:

  • Day 1 & 2 – 1 tsp
  • Day 3 & 4 – 2 tsp
  • Day 5 onward – 1 tbsp

I have mixed my drink with water every day, other than this morning when I decided to try it out with some apple juice (as suggested on the container). Note to self – apple juice makes it WAY too sweet!

The greens+ doesn’t exactly make the most appetizing looking beverage. I like to refer to it as swamp water.

But it doesn’t taste all that bad. I’m not fully sold on the orange flavour I was sent, as it’s a bit artificial tasting to me. I’d rather see it come in a vanilla flavour, because I love anything vanilla. In fact, some of their other greens+ products do come in vanilla, just not the extra energy variety.

So have I seen any changes?

  • pH – I think it’s become slightly less acidic, ranging from 6.2 up to 7.0 in some cases. I do notice though, that if I test both my urine and saliva, I will get different results. So definitely pick one and stick with that, for consistency sake. That way you’ll get a better idea if there is a true change or not.
  • Energy – another hard one to quantify, since I am horribly sleep deprived all week. Maybe I have more energy? I don’t tend to nod off on the bus as much, I think.

I will say though, that I do look forward to downing my glass of swamp water in the mornings. I can’t really say why, but it’s enjoyable. I think the taste has grown on me somewhat. And I’ve generally stopped drinking any juice with my breakfast, which you may or may not think is a good thing (I don’t see juice as the devil personally). This is a mighty expensive juice replacer though!

Since I still have a few weeks worth of product to go, I’ll continue on doing weekly recaps, and decide at the end of it if this would be worth investing in on a regular basis. Right now, I would say I’m not fully convinced, but you never know what may come about at the end.
