Won’t Get Fooled

April 1st has come and gone for another year. Did you play any pranks on anyone? Have a prank played on you? I avoided all the shenanigans by sleeping in late, therefore minimizing the chances that someone would try and pull a fast one on me.

Actually, I had considering getting up and going to a class at the gym this morning with my mom, but when she woke me up, I realized my calves were still cranky, so I thought it would be in my best interest to not go.

Side note – I finally had an epiphany on what caused the calf pain. When I was at the gym on Tuesday, I did the circuit they have set up, which includes doing steps in between each weight exercise. Me thinks it was all the step ups that pissed off my calves. I’m just glad I don’t have to be paranoid about blood clots or DVT or something.

When I did finally roll out of bed, I got my swamp water on.

Sienna was actually backing away from the glass of greens+ extra energy. Obviously, she’s not into drinking some greens in the morning.

Then it was time to make use of some of the new products I’ve been amassing these past few days, in a hearty bowl of oatmeal.

I just had to dig into the big ol’ jar of Nuts To You hazelnut butter, in a bowl of Strawberry Hazelnut Oats.

  • 1/2 cup oats, milk, water
  • 6 sliced strawberries (some saved for decorating)
  • splash of vanilla
  • 1 tbsp flax seed
  • heaping spoonful of hazelnut butter

Love that fresh strawberries are coming back, even if they are from California.

OMG. Hazelnut butter is heaven. I could probably sit down and eat it straight out of the jar with a spoon. And the only ingredient is roasted hazelnuts. Love Nuts To You products – too bad they don’t have a website (apparently the owner doesn’t use email either!)

I spent the morning taking care of business on the laptop, and then went out for a walk around the ‘hood. It’s always fun to walk through the streets in our neighbourhood, remembering what families used to live in all the houses around here, seeing how things have (or haven’t) changed since I was a kid.

After a quick shower, I set out to create lunch featuring leftovers.

I had half of my sweet potato/mushroom/onion hash leftover, and though it would make an excellent burrito/wrap filling.

On a whole wheat tortilla, I smashed half a wee avocado, added the heated up leftover hash, and topped it with a little monterey jack cheese and salsa.

I sort of folded it up to eat it, and managed to do so without making a complete mess. It was one tasty little bundle of good eats.

I may have followed it with some junk, in the form of a giant M&M studded cookie.

I had a 4 hour shift this afternoon at work, over dinner time of course. I can’t not take a little something to nibble on, so I packed a small piece of the giant sub sandwich my mom bought when she was out today.

It’s nothing special – giant loaf of French bread stuffed with meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomato (which I remove – vile tomato always ruining my sandwiches).

Work was generally slow, which make me fear tomorrow. Good Friday, end of spring break, Easter coming up? Yeah, I imagine everyone will be in there getting their Easter dinner items. Oh well – at least the time goes faster!

All through my shift, I was looking forward to dinner. Mom said she was going to make blueberry pancakes. I had plans of topping them with Greek yogurt/peanut butter/maple syrup. Mmmm. Too bad when I got home, dad informed me they had omelettes instead. Not cool.

I quickly surveyed my options, and came up with something else to tickle my taste buds.

It started with the rest of the tomato soup.

Plus a few Ak-Maks that I picked up on a whim yesterday.

And a little wedge of fancy Swiss Knight cheese. Dad picked this up at the store, so I figured I should nab one before they were all gone.

I didn’t think the soup alone would be quite filling enough, so I figured I may as well try out the Vega Sport Performance Protein Powder I also picked up yesterday in a smoothie. Here’s a peak at the vanilla flavoured powder – it has a grey/greenish tinge.

I added the packet of protein powder, a small banana, 1 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tbsp peanut butter, and maybe 1/2 cup of milk?

Why do all my beverages look like either sludge or bowel movements lately?

Anyways, I whizzed up all those ingredients in the magic bullet, and let them sit while my dinner photo shoot was going on. When I went to take a drink of my smoothie, I was a little surprised to see it had firmed up to almost a pudding like texture.

I’m not sure if it’s the properties of the powder, because of the banana, or the small amount of liquid I added, but I was definitely eating this smoothie with a spoon.

As for my verdict on this protein powder – I quite enjoyed it. I had tried Vega’s Smoothie Infusion before, and thought it tasted like ass, so I was a little worried as to how this would go over. But it was good! I think I just need my powders to have that vanilla flavour, then I’m happy to enjoy them. I’m contemplating picking up a full tub of the stuff, since it tastes good, and is made by a company I can drive to in literally 10 minutes.

The rest of my evening was spent watching my Canucks embarrass themselves in LA, then watching PVR’d Survivor with my mom. Fun times on a Thursday night, I tell ya!

Now, I sleep. Night!

I love when leftovers can be turned into a wrap at lunch. Had one a couple weeks ago that ended up being eating with a knife and fork! Love it.
Don’t worry about your Canuks, they can’t possibly be at the level of our Leafs. 😉

I had a feeling that hazelnut butter would be right up your alley! 😉

Isn’t it funny how cats get freaked out by the funniest things???

I pulled a prank yesterday: I got engaged. We’ve been together for over 10 years, so no one believed us. Especially when they saw my ugly engagement ring (http://bit.ly/9VUZFn). The real joke is the fact the engagement was real (the ring was not). Unfortunately, my real ring was lost in transit. Oops!

Glad to see I’m not the only person who shoves leftovers into fajitas for lunch… You feel strange but it makes for an awesome meal.

I spy Ak Maks…they go quite well with cheese, so I bet that was a tasty dinner.
Haha, I think some of my tastiest smoothies resemble BMs:)
