Wacky Weather

Check out our backyard after all that wind last night. Bonus points if you spot the cat.

Lots of Douglas fir and cedar pieces blown all over the place. Mom spent all morning cleaning off the deck and lawn.

Fortunately, there wasn’t much damage to our trees, and none to our house. We didn’t even lose power – unlike over 100,000 people on Vancouver Island (my former home).

While I surveyed the scene, I enjoyed my daily swamp water. I thought the choice of glass was rather amusing.

Then it was time to kick it with oatmeal.

I went with a delectable banana/hazelnut butter/chocolate chip combo.

  • 1/2 cup oats, milk, water
  • 1 small banana, sliced
  • splash of vanilla
  • 1 tbsp flax seed
  • hazelnut butter
  • chocolate chips

Check out that oozy hazelnut bliss.

Could hazelnut replace my beloved peanut butter? Or is this just a summer (spring?) romance? Only time will tell…

Some time was spent on the interweb, then I figured it was about time I did something productive, so I went for a walk. I figured I’d better get out there before some form of weather system returned – you just never know this time of year!

Back at home, I got ready for work. I was still pretty full from breakfast, so I didn’t bother with lunch. My shift was from 12:30 – 5:15 pm, but I only had a 15 min break, so I didn’t really want to pack a full lunch to eat either. So I went more snack like.

Some ripe strawberries, and a Chocolate Bumble Bar. This was my first time trying a Bumble Bar, and I really liked it. It’s chocked full of sesame seeds, and has a really nice flavour and texture. Kind of like those sesame snaps, but not as hard. We had them on sale this week, so I grabbed a handful after work now that I know I like them. I just wished we sold other flavours.

Work was pretty busy today – everyone getting their last minute items for Easter dinner tomorrow. But I like it that way, because it doesn’t drag on. Alas, I also have to work tomorrow until 6:30 pm, so I’ll be late to my own Easter dinner.

When I got home, dinner was basically on the table. Mom was BBQ’ing burgers, and my sister was just putting together the fixings. I went to get a dish to put the dill pickles in, and totally dropped it on the floor, where it smashed into a million pieces. I swear, sometimes I am a complete butterfingers in the kitchen! I’ve broken my fair share of glass items, usually while I’m standing there in bare feet. At least today I had socks on!

After that mess was cleaned up, we sat down to eat.

Burger & salad! I’d love to show you a close up of my burger, but I was camera-stupid this evening and all my photos were blurry. So blurry I couldn’t save them with my photoshop magic. So just imagine a BBQ beef burger with cheese, onions, pickles, lettuce, mayo, mustard, and ketchup. You can do it, I know you can!

I do have a salad glamour shot for you though.

Too bad the salad is pretty boring – lettuce, cucumber, carrot, with a homemade yogurt/dijon/dill/lemon dressing.

Après le dîner, I helped with the kitchen clean up, then mom and I got to work making some dessert for tomorrow. Nothing like my usual holiday masterpieces, but this is going to be a more low key Easter dinner. We aren’t even going to use the good china or silverware? Gasp!

I decided I was bored, so I went out to the mall, mostly to buy toothpaste. No better way to spend a Saturday night eh? I also hit up the natural food store, but only grabbed a couple of different flavours of those Bumble Bars I’m now obsessed with (one being hazelnut – combining two obsessions in one!)

On the way back home, I had to drive through a downpour mixed with snow. What? I know. How messed up, snow in April. Crazy weather around here.

I decided to bust out some yoga for an hour, then sat down with some tea & eggs.

Eggs of the chocolate, candy coated, mini variety of course.

One of the guys at work bought them and gave them to everyone. Hence the fluorescent smiley face sticker on the package – we use those at work to show that the product has in fact been paid for.

And that, my friends, brings another day in the life of me to a close. I must bid you adieu, as I would like to get up in time to find my way to the gym before work. Big turkey dinner coming my way tomorrow. Gobble Gobble!

I read online this morn the BC was hit pretty hard weather wise yesterday. Eeek!

I must try one of those Bumble bars now that I hear they’re good. I’ve always eyed them up, but never bought them. Too bad you have to work today. All the stores here are locked up tight. Funny how all the provinces have their own “rules”, eh?

Mmmm….Cadbury mini eggs…is there anything better???

    Happy Easter!

First of all, those mini chocolate Cadbury eggs are my absolute favorite. I don’t even like candy, and I love those. Second, you’re basically the only other person I’ve seen who has had Bumble Bars!!! I love them! The original is my favorite, but if you pop the chocolate in the microwave for a few seconds, it’s insanely delicious…
