Two Fer

That’s right boys & girls – you are getting two days worth of eats all wrapped up in one tasty post! What a deal! Sure, it might be because I worked late and zonked out early last night, but let’s not sweat the details and get on to the food!

Back to school…back to early mornings. Le sigh. I definitely needed to start off the day with something hearty and delicious, like oatmeal. Actually, scratch that – I needed to my daily swamp water first!

Oh yes, the greens+ extra energy experiment is still going strong. Foamy head and all (how dirty does that sound?!)

Then it was time for that hearty delicious oatmeal.

I shall call this West Coast Oats – or Hazelnut Blackberry Oats. Either way, it was a good one.

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp skim milk powder
  • frozen blackberries
  • splash of vanilla
  • 1 tbsp flax seed
  • hazelnut butter

I’ve decided that oats are the perfect way to use up the skim milk powder I have. They make them creamy smooth.

And due to my love affair with hazelnut butter, it got a little extra attention at the photo shoot.

I even had a glass of juice with my oats – pineapple coconut. It was as good as it sounds.

I took a wee bit too long savouring my breakfast, and was in a rush to get my lunch made and out the door on time. Therefore, I only have one sad photo of lunch – an ambrosia apple and mystery wrap.

I’d tell you what was in the wrap…but you’ll figure it out later 😉

School was school. I think because it’s so close to being over, I’m starting to lose interest. I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to NOT having to commute all the way out to UBC every day. 2.5+ hours in my day not spent on transit? I’ll take it!

I did make an excellent discovery on the way home though. Something made me get off the bus and check out this market I go past every day – Kerrisdale Natural Foods (located on Broadway near Macdonald). What a discovery I made. The store itself isn’t really anything to write home about, but they have Liberté Greek Yogurt for $3.99. That’s their regular price. That’s the best SALE price I can get at other stores. Totally worth getting off the bus for.

I had a couple hours at home before I needed to get to work, so I spent some time relaxing and munching on a few Peanut Butter Puffins.

I also took the opportunity to put together a good dinner to take to work. Starting with a green salad lettuce, spinach, cucumber, green onion, hemp seeds, pine nuts, wee bit of shredded carrot.

This was to be the vehicle for trying out my other purchase of the day – Brianna’s French Vinaigrette Dressing.

Yes, I’m well aware of how easy it is to make salad dressings. But sometimes it’s nice to have a really simple prepared dressing in the fridge when you don’t feel like creating your own. I like Brianna’s dressing, as they are made with quality ingredients and taste awesome.

To go with my salad, I dished up a small bowl of Happy Planet Thai Coconut Soup, with a few Ak-Maks on the side.

Good food to go.

Work was work. My shift went from 4:30 – 10:15 pm. And let’s be honest – not many people are shopping on a Tuesday night that late, so it was rather slow. I did end up picking up a snack on one of my breaks – a Peanut Butter Chocolate Simply Bar.

Yeah, don’t waste your money. It may have said peanut butter chocolate on the package, but I tasted neither. It was bland, dry, and not enjoyable. Give me a Larabar, Vega Whole Food Vibrancy Bar, or Bumble Bar any day over this piece of junk.

Work was followed by coming home and going to bed. 5:30 am was a’ coming quickly!

5:30 am came too quickly. My body resisted getting out of bed as long as possible. A little too long, actually.

Even my swamp water wasn’t going to give me enough extra energy to wake up.

Breakfast needed to be filling and quick. Enter a childhood favourite…

Toast with pb & b. To be more exact – toasted Silver Hills sprouted grain bread with peanut butter, banana, and honey.

Love this oozy honey shot.

I decided that making a lunch was more important than getting to biochemistry on time. I may have been 10 min late, but at least I had a good lunch waiting for me…after the hour long nap I took in the deserted student lounge.

There’s that damn mystery wrap again! Shall we take a peek inside this time?

Tortilla filled with turkey, avocado, dijon, mayo, spinach, and shredded cheddar. Excellent combination.

I also snagged a piece of roasted acorn squash leftover from Easter. Please excuse how repulsive the melted cheese on it looks.

I also threw in a Kashi Trail Mix granola bar. Because I could.

My afternoon food science class was booooring. We watched some movie on food borne illnesses that I’m pretty sure was made in 1993. It was on VHS. Need I say more?

Home I went, where I wasted less than an hour before heading out to work. The only productive thing I did was make my snack for my break.

Some Greek yogurt mixed with Almond Budder Extreme & honey, with sliced strawberries.

Work was…yes, you guessed it. Work! It was the start of a new flyer week though, so I got in a little shopping afterwards, since we have avocados on sale for $1 each. Woot! Picked me up a few, plus some other random items that I’m sure will grace the blog in the near future, what with this being a food blog and all.

When I got home, mom advised me dinner was ready for me, but I wasn’t feeling it. So I watched ANTM and contemplated my options. I also consumed some of these.

My evil temptress dear sister brought home Girl Guide cookies. I may be obsessed with the vanilla ones. I wish they didn’t taint the box with all those stupid chocolate ones. Actually, that’s not true – then I would just eat more. But yeah…I had 3. Mmmm, cookies.

Half way through Criminal Minds (9:30 ish?) I finally gave in and made something I could call dinner.

The trusty ol’ smoothie.

  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 avocado
  • 1 large kale leaf
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp skim milk powder
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • drizzle of agave
  • water to fill

Just like pudding! Avocados are the shiz in smoothies. What can’t avocados do?!

After TV watching it was shower time, then computer time. Hence this post! And again, I’ve stayed up later than I should, so I’m calling this a wrap. Mmmm, wrap. Night!

I love that place! I think its Kitsilano Natural Foods? I’ve bought some decent Dan-D-Pak stuff there before, I think it used to just be called Dan-D-Pak actually…thanks for the heads up on the Liberte! I actually loved those Simply Bars, but I tried the coffee/mocha flavour instead!

My husband came home with 3 boxes of gg cookies 2 weeks ago! I’ve been eating a couple almost every day! I love the chocolate, so we could share boxes. 🙂

Thanks for the heads up on the Greek yogurt deal! I hopped on the bus from UBC today to check it out. $3.99 was a great find!! It hurts me everytime I even consider paying $5.99 for that small tub.

I’m not into juice but I can see me drinking some coconut pineapple! I finally found the Liberte Greek yogurt here. $5.19 a tub….no matter, I’ll pay it! And I saw some of that almond budder last night @$9.99! Yikes! Is it that expensive out there???
