Doughy Delights

Well, this post almost wasn’t going to get published tonight – as I was sitting down to the computer, our power went out! We searched for the flashlights, got the lantern lit, and were just about to pack up what we were all doing to go to bed…and it came back on. Not too sure what that was all about. All I know, is now we need to reset all the damn clocks!

Rewind to early this morning….

Another Friday, another early morning. Kicked off with some frothy swamp water a la greens+ extra energy.

Then came my awesome, atypical early morning breakfast. Pancakes!

IMG_6570

Obviously, these blueberry pancakes were not whipped up from scratch. They were leftover from my family’s dinner the night before.

IMG_6569

I topped them with what I deem “pancake icing” – a mixture of Greek yogurt, peanut butter, and maple syrup. It’s thick like icing, slightly sweet, and perfect for pancakes. Or eating by the spoonful.

IMG_6566

On the side I had half of a ruby red grapefruit – on sale this week at Thrifty Foods 4 for $2!

IMG_6567

How can your day be bad when you start it like this?

IMG_6565

I even made it to class on time – on a Friday no less! Usually by the end of the week, my motivation to be in class before the instructor starts has waned to about zero. But I was on the ball this morning. I even packed a nice little lunch.

IMG_6573

Why does my crackberry end up in all my lunch photos at school? Can we say addicted to our phone much?

So, other than the multiple drink containers (one had green tea to warm up, the other had cold water to refresh), I brought along the other spinach & feta samosa that I didn’t eat for dinner last night.

Check out its guts!

IMG_6578

Plus some Happy Planet Thai Coconut soup. Love this soup.

IMG_6576

And a crunchy, delicious ambrosia apple.

IMG_6577

The apple made the perfect ending to a spice filled lunch.

I also found out that today was the last Friday of the semester. Apparently classes end on Thursday next week, not Friday. I have no clue why – seems a bit random to me – but I’ll take it!

I finally made my way back home to enjoy some time in the gorgeous sunshine we’ve been having (although, I had to scrape ice off my car this morning – WTF?!) I also discovered my mom had done a little grocery shopping, and a fresh loaf of sourdough bread was calling my name. You can’t resist the sourdough!

IMG_6582

I had to serve myself a slice of this doughy delight, in my most favourite way – with a little butter and cheddar cheese. Yum!

IMG_6581

Please excuse the fact that I can’t cut fresh loaves of bread to save my life.

Much of my afternoon was spent harassing the fur babies, basking in the sunshine, and interwebbing away. Then it was time to bust a move at Zumba. Friday is not the day I actually signed up for, but because I was working this Tuesday, I had to miss my first class, so I made it up at the Friday class. It was good times, even if I’m jiggling in the all the wrong places 😉 I figure I can only get better, right? LOL. Confession: I kinda want some Zumba pants. Funky cargo pants made for working out? Right up my alley! Perhaps if our dollar keeps on it’s upward trend, I may just have to order a pair.

When we got back home (my sister is also doing Zumba), we found out that Pizza Smut Hut was on the menu. Here’s my tasting plate of greasy, doughy bites. You know, because I hadn’t already consumed enough refined white flour for the day.

IMG_6584

A slice of my favourite pizza – the Veggie Mediterranean with mushrooms subbed in for the black olives.

IMG_6585

A piece of the P’Zone my dad ordered to try out. I think it had mozzarella, bacon, mushrooms and sausage in it? Not really sure.

IMG_6586

And the only thing my sister will eat when we have pizza – cheesy breadsticks. Yes, it’s true – the girl doesn’t like pizza. What?!

IMG_6587

Uh…so P’Zones are weird. There’s no sauce in them, and the dough was sweet. Definitely could do without ever eating any of that again. I should have just stuck to my veggie & feta covered slices. Much better.

I managed to watch some Food Revolution while suffering from that carb coma, while getting some online things done. Then there was that aforementioned power outage. Then the power came back on. And a vanilla Girl Guide cookie was consumed.

IMG_6589

And now I must sleep – I have a whole Saturday off, and big plans for the day, including some of my favourite things: cooking, hockey, and, well…I’m sure there’s a third thing I’m missing. It’s late, I’m tired, and full of white flour. That’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it. And on that note – good night!

ETA: Just as I was about to hit publish, our freakin’ power went out again. And then came back. Lucky you!

I’m loving the pancake icing! I have all of those wonderful ingredients…

The Girl Guide cookie makes me nostalgic. I immigrated to the United States ten years ago. The Girl Scouts cookies don’t compare. I used to combine the chocolate and vanilla cookies together to create two ultimate cookies.

A few years ago my brother mailed me a box. The cost to mail them was triple the cost of the cookies. Oops.

“Check out the guts”…love it! LOL!

I’m seriously thinking of checking out a Zumba class at one of the gym’s here. But I can’t dance to save my soul and would be going solo to class. Guess I just need to buck up and do it!

Zumba sounds interesting. I took a cardio hip hop class once and found I don’t have the dance gene lol. It would be fun to try, but I don’t know where the classes are.
On another note, Thrifty’s is one of my favorite grocery stores! :p

I am loving that pancake icing! What a great combo. I will definitely be trying that. My husband loves to put pb on his pancakes and this sounds even better.
