The Good Ol’ Hockey Game

…is the best game you can play.

Stompin’ Tom Connors anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

This Friday was all about the Canucks hockey game this evening. Oh sure, I did other things during the day, but the thing I was looking forward to most was planting myself in front of the TV and watching a little puck action in HD.

I started my day off with a bit of a sleep in, then started in on that breakfast thing, featuring a recent purchase of mine.

Victoria’s famous Mount Royal Bagels! We had them on sale this week, and I’ve seen people bring them through my till at work, and man, do these cinnamon ones smell good. It was the perfect opportunity to give them a try.

I toasted one up, spread it with peanut butter, and topped it with banana slices.

Finished off with a drizzle of honey and sprinkle of cinnamon, it was a breakfast treat.

And it went swimmingly with my tall glass of greens+ extra energy.

The bagels were good, but I would have liked the cinnamon flavour to be throughout the bagel, and not just on the outside. Still, a nice treat to have every once in awhile.

Now, I would love to say I studied psychology all morning until it was time to go to work. But…ya know, other things were more interesting. Like driving out to Choices Market to find bulk hazelnuts and take advantage of their Larabar sale (4 for $5!). It’s okay, my exam isn’t until Monday. I’ve still got time.

Eventually it was time to make some lunch. There was minimal creativity involved in this one – remember my falafel pita last night? Well, substitute chicken for falfel, Silver Hills sprouted grain bread for pita, and leave out the tzatziki, and you’ve pretty much got it.

Then it was time to head to work. Which was sooo slow. That’s what happens when the entire city wants to get home to watch Friday night playoff hockey. Fortunately, I was off at 7:30, so I only missed the majority of the first period.

Dad asked me to pick up some ready to eat meals from our deli for dinner, since it was just me and him at home. He chose the Ukrainian meal – perogies, sausage, and cabbage rolls. I went with the Penne Pasta in Roasted Garlic Cream Sauce. But of course, I kicked my boring ol’ pasta up a notch.

I also brought home some portabella mushrooms, and sauteed one up with butter.

I reheated the pasta in the microwave, then mixed in a couple handfuls of baby spinach.

Topped with the portabellas and some freshly grated parmesan, it turned into an awesome meal.

Not bad for a ready to eat meal eh? And it paired nicely with the white cranberry cider hiding there in the corner.

I chowed down on my pasta meal while watching my Canucks spank the LA Kings in a convincing 7 –2 victory. So glad they picked up their game, and are now one away from making it into the second round of the playoffs. Here’s hoping we see another win this Sunday!

And that, my friends, is really all I have for you this evening. It was a pretty chill day. Alas, I must buckle down tomorrow and study away during the day, as I have to work in the afternoon/evening. I can’t believe I have less than a week left until everything school related is done!

On that note, I’m out. Night!

Wow, your breakfast bagel looks amazing! Definitely think that’s insulin worthy!

I was out yesterday, and we are not hockey fans, but my husband said the Chicago Hawks had an amazing game – but can I just say that hockey has like the longest season of any sport??!!

Good luck on your test tomorrow!

Fresh portabellas, cheese & spinach… always a good choice on pasta! Fabulous photos by the way!
