Spontaneous Sushi

Hello there wonderful readers. How is this last week of April treating you all? Can you believe it’s almost May? Crazy, I know.

I had a day free of work and exams today, which was great. As I’m sure you can all guess, I slept in (when don’t I sleep in?). Somehow sleeping in is even better when the weather is crap out – who wants to get out of bed on a rainy, windy day?

Eventually though, I pried myself out from under the covers, and wandered on down to the kitchen for a little breakfast.

Since no one else in my house is into the Mount Royal Cinnamon Bagels, it’s my duty to eat them up before they go bad. It’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make. So I toasted one up, and spread on a little Almond Budder Extreme.

I was also craving some Greek yogurt, which I topped with strawberries and the Rogers Honey & Hazelnut 5 Grain Granola I received.

A refreshing glass of greens+ extra energy rounded out breakfast.

It makes me sad that I’m almost out of my greens+. I’m hoping my store has it on sale soon – I might just make it a regular part of my day.

I was a good student this morning, and did some studying. Yes, two days before my exam! Who am I?! Don’t worry, I made sure not to tax my brain too much.

I had plans in the afternoon, but wasn’t hungry for lunch before heading out (that’s what happens when you’re a sleeper inner like me). I did snack on the last mystery muffin (for my Wellness Show Media Muffin Contest entry), in the brief time that the sun was actually shining today.

Doesn’t it just kill you, not knowing what all I put in these amazing muffins? Soon, my pretties. Soon I will share.

Then it was time to make myself presentable for the public, as I was off to meet Jill of Jill’s Test Kitchen for coffee. If you remember, Jill was the winner of The Wellness Show swag bag, and I needed to deliver it to her. We got our Starbucks (non-fat, half sweet green tea latte for me), and wandered around the mall chatting. It wasn’t one of those blind blogger dates though – Jill and I went to high school together.

Since neither of us had had lunch, we made the impromptu decision to get some sushi. Who am I to say no to the suggestion of sushi? We made our way over to Nagano Sushi, with just enough time to eat before they closed to set up for dinner. After perusing the menu, we made our selections.

First, we received a complementary taster of vegetable croquettes (I think that’s what the server said). They were…meh. Nothing to write home about.

Next up was gomae (which we both had). It tasted good, but did it really need to be swimming in that much sauce?

Then came our rolls. I went with one standby – salmon maki. I do love fresh salmon, but would love it more if weren’t the farmed salmon that I’m sure this was. I’m a bit of a salmon snob.

My second roll was just too cute. It was the vegetable dynamite roll. I can’t remember what vegetables were inside the roll, but it was topped with tempura sweet potato & yam. And it looked like a caterpillar. Yum!

Love the little broccoli “antennae”! This was my favourite dish, even without taking into account the cuteness factor.

It was fun getting together with Jill this afternoon, seeing as we haven’t seen each other since high school. Jill – we must do it again sometime!

Alas, once I was back home, it was time to do a little more studying, followed by a little hockey watching, and then Zumba class – the second highlight of my day. Although, there was some woman there who kept getting in my space, and had no timing whatsoever, and was totally throwing me off. I know it’s not about being perfect, because lord knows I am no where near a Zumba master, but some people are just so off that it’s distracting!

Back at home & into my comfy pj’s, I finally sat down to dinner.

Homemade BBQ’d burgers, veggies galore, and oven baked french fries. I swear, there was a burger in that giant bun.

See! It’s in there, hanging out with some onion, pickle, lettuce, mustard, ketchup, and mayo. Just a little camera shy is all.

The rest of my evening was spent chillaxing, with nary an ounce of studying done. I’m saving that for the marathon tomorrow! Which won’t come unless I get to bed. Night!

I love Zumba! I have to be close enough to watch the feel of the instructor or I get totally lost. Once the arms are thrown in I am really messed up! No matter how bad I am I still love going every week.

The broccoli antennae really adds character to the sushi. Is that dragon roll or caterpiller roll?
