I bet I have you all intrigued by the title of my post. Or at least, I like to think I do. We’ll get to it in due time, don’t you worry.

Today was another long work day for me. You’d think I’d never worked a full time job before the way I talk about these 8.5 hour days, but it’s alot different working in customer service, on my feet all day, than working at my old desk job counting fish. Even when I was on my feet all day at that job, it was because I was on the dock doing things. It was very different.

I would love to say I woke up early and got in a workout, but we all know I’d be lying. Instead, I slept in as long as I could, then got up, showered, and decided it was time to put some food into my belly. Keep in mind by this time, it was nearing 11 am.

Since it wasn’t really breakfast anymore, I just made myself some lunch. But I started with some Vanilla Almondilla Vega Shake & Go Smoothie, mixed with almond milk.

If you haven’t tried this product, you must. It’s delicious. And I was ecstatic to find out my store now carries it.

I sipped on my smoothie while I put together the main course. I had a hankering for some cheese, which was satisfied by a grilled cheese sandwich.

In between two slices of Silver Hills “The Big 16” bread, I sandwiched some Little Qualicum Cheeseworks Raclette cheese (a raw milk cheese). This stuff makes a mean grilled cheese – it gets stringy like mozzarella. Yum!

On the side I had some kale chips. This was kale I had bought at my local farmer’s market, and it must be a different variety from the stuff we usually get in the grocery store, because my chips cooked faster than normal. I may have burnt more than a few. Some so badly, they didn’t even make it to the plate.

Fuel for the workday ahead.

Work was, ya know, work. Customers came in, bought groceries, yadda yadda. I did manage to cut my thumb open while removing the plastic wrapping on a roll of nickels. That resulted in a trip to the first aid room and a beautiful blue band-aid that I had to wear the rest of my shift. And the compressor for our ice cream freezer broke – which is not a good thing when you have ice cream on sale. On a long weekend.

I did bring some tasty food with me, and it was lucky enough to partake in a photo shoot in my car.

First, there were leftovers from last night’s dinner – a bison smokie, pesto pasta salad, and dijon red potato salad.

A trio of veggies – carrot, cucumber, and snap peas. How tried are you of seeing these in my lunches?

Which had some Sabra Roasted Garlic Hummus for dipping, seen here with gala apple, that was not dipped in the hummus.

All laid out on the centre console lookin’ pretty.

By the time I got home from work, it was 9 pm. I was hungry, but wasn’t sure what I wanted. I considered a sandwich, but that wasn’t quite it. Dessert sounded like it might be a good idea, but not quite. Then I considered breakfast, since I hadn’t technically had that yet today. I finally settled on oatmeal, and decided it needed chocolate in it.

The oatmeal morphed into basically a dessert. Or as I like to call it, bressert – breakfast & dessert combined.

This was some pretty phenomenal dessert oatmeal, let me tell you. I call it Chocolate Hazelnut Oatmeal.

  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp skim milk powder
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • splash of vanilla
  • hazelnut butter
  • Artisana Coconut Butter
  • chocolate chips

Talk about a bowl of decadence! But it wasn’t overly sweet, because other than the chocolate chips, there was no added sugar in it. Gotta love that! Check out how the hazelnut butter just oozes awesomeness all over those oats.

Who wouldn’t want to dive right on into those? I mean, come on.

Now I’m at the halfway point of my working long weekend. Only 2 more days! And tomorrow’s shift is an earlier one, so I should get myself into bed. Hope you all had a fabulous Saturday and did something fun. Or at least ate some bressert. Night!
