It’s 12 O’Clock Somewhere

This pretty little bottle may have come into my possession around 10:30 am this morning.

It felt kinda wrong, to be shopping in the liquor store before I’d even had lunch. And yet, I was definitely not the only person in there. I did enjoy browsing all the fun liqueurs in the store – like Dutch caramel vodka. Um, hello! I would love to have a bar to stock, just to buy all those interesting spirits. Even if I only drink every once in awhile.

Why on earth was I purchasing a bottle of almond liqueur before I’d even showered (hey, I was on my way to the gym – no point in showering until after that)? I’d love to say I was turning into a lush, but alas, it was just for a secret baking project.

Pre-alcohol shopping, I had some breakfast.

Last night I thought I might make oatmeal this morning, but when I woke up, my stomach was not feeling something quite that hearty, so I went with a bowl of cereal.

A nice bowl of Nature’s Path Pumpkin Raisin Crunch with milk. Too bad I didn’t have the amaretto then 😉

And some juice. You know what kind.

When I returned home with my loot, the mail hand come. And lo and behold – the last book from my Amazon order arrived. Why they couldn’t have waited the day and shipped them together is beyond me.

Yeah, I know, I said yesterday that I didn’t need any more cookbooks. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want any more 😉 It’s my dad’s fault really – he showed me a newspaper article on quinoa that featured this book, and I had to order it. I think he secretly wants me to cook him quinoa dishes.

Sienna was less impressed with the Amazon package than I was.

She couldn’t figure out why this “box” didn’t have sides so she could sit in it.

Look at her, giving it the stink eye! Or maybe that stink eye was for me. It’s so hard to tell with cats.

After taking a much needed shower, I made a quick lunch so I could get onto drinking my amaretto my secret baking project.

I was in the mood for a toasted cucumber sandwich today, but jazzed it up with some Little Qualicum Cheeseworks Herbie Fromage Frais cheese.

On some Silver Hills “The Big 16” bread of course.

I also reheated the rest of the tomato soup, which was perfect for dunking my sandwich into.

There was another vicious cookie assault – but this time Sienna was the victim.

Not to worry – I was quick to react. That cookie didn’t even see me coming.

Then we come to the point in the day where I set out on baking. Let’s just say…it didn’t turn out as planned. Fortunately, the ingredients were not to blame. It was a combination of faulty equipment and user error. Alas, I did not have all the ingredients left to make my secret baked item again. Fortunately, I had to leave for work, and seeing as I work in a grocery store, I knew I could just buy them, and bake again when I got home.

Speaking of work – I packed some food to eat there. I guess you could call it dinner.

There was a Rhubarb Mango Coconut Muffin.

And some cottage cheese, peanut butter, and strawberry jam. I thought I’d go a little wild and replace my usual yogurt with the cottage cheese. Crazy!

This time not photographed while in traffic.

Work was work. I did a quick shop afterwards for baking necessities, then made my way home, where I discovered a) half of my failed baking adventure had been consumed by my family (either they aren’t picky, or it was still really good), and b) new baking equipment to replace the ones that hampered my efforts the first time (Thanks mom!)

While I baked, I ate half a cheese sandwich. I needed something savoury to counter balance the copious amounts of sugar that entered my system while taste testing my project.

And now I sit here, at 12:26 pm, and my 2nd attempt at my super secret baking project has turned out successful. But you’ll just have to wait a few days to find out what it is since I’ll be in a drunken amaretto stupor away in Victoria for the weekend. Until then – Night!

Neat cook book! I’d love to read it as I can’t imagine quinoa being interesting enough to fill an entire cookbook, lol.

Hi Marianne!!! Gosh I’ve missed your posts. 🙂 I’ve been so busy with life and transitioning out of my job into vacation mode before grad school these past few months.

I’m shocked you didn’t put some of that liquor into the cereal. That would have been so rebellious. hahah OK OK, i’m kinda of glad that you didn’t. It might have ruined the cereal flavors.

I am loving your sexed up version of the tomato soup and cheese sandwich combo. So gorgeous!!
