Welcome To June-uaray

Can you believe it’s June already? Where has the year gone?!

As I’m sure you can guess by the title, June in BC has started off…cold, dark, and rainy. Pretty much a continuation of the end of May. I hear there are heat waves back east. I wonder what that’s like. But I’m not really complaining – I actually quite enjoy the rain. You have to learn to embrace it if you are going to live here.

I started off the month bright and early, as I picked up an extra shift at work that morning. And despite our lack of summery weather, I went with a very summery breakfast.

The almost empty container of Greek yogurt, and very ripe mango in the fruit bowl were just pining away for each other.

Also invited to the party was some peanut butter, and Kashi GoLean Crunch.

Plus a glass of black current elderberry juice for good measure.

Since my shift at work was only until 1:30, I figured I didn’t really need to pack much of a lunch with me, so I grabbed this Rhubarb Mango Coconut Muffin to have as a snack on my break.

Too bad it must have been on the verge of going off – I only had a few bites, and threw it in the trash.

Needless to say, I was more than ready for lunch when I left the store. Which is why this came home with me.

A customer brought through a shrimp tempura roll through my till, and it looked so good, I had to pick one up after work.

It’s both a good and bad thing that my store has such amazing sushi. Good for my taste buds, bad for my wallet.

I may have followed up my sushi with the second to last slice of Cherry Almond Bachelorette Bundt Cake.

And then spent some serious quality time with my much neglected Wii. After seeing the new Super Mario Galaxy game for sale, I decided to revisit the first one, seeing as I can’t very well justify buying the new one until I finish the first one!

Soon enough, mom announced that dinner was ready.

Soup and sandwiches! Tomato soup to be exact.

With a grilled cheese sandwich. I had the last of the Little Qualicum Cheeseworks Raclette cheese in mine. It melts so perfectly.

Plus some tart, fresh pineapple on the side.

After dinner we were all off to Zumba. It was the first class of the new term, where we learned the new choreography for the summer. So many people come out to the master classes, because they are free. It makes for one crowded, hot gym. Good thing there are never that many there on a regular basis.

Post Zumba, I grabbed a snack to fuel me through some more fun with Mario.

Mom had picked up some 100 Mile Bread from A Bread Affair at the farmer’s market on the weekend. The bread is studded with hazelnuts and blueberries. Very delicious. I toasted up a slice and spread on some hazelnut butter and a little creamed cinnamon honey.

So despite the weather, June seemed to kick off alright. How about you – has your June started off great?

The rain has hit us now, too! We really needed it, but I hope it doesn’t last too long. I miss the sun already.

I’ll be trying Zumba in the next few weeks. Can’t wait!
