Chocolate & Cheese

Hello there blog readers – including my mom and family friend who have discovered my little piece of cyberspace! Sorry no post last night, but by the time I got home from work, all I wanted to do was chill. Plus I’d used up all my witty charm on my customers – I even had one lady tell me that I should be a comedian, and I think she was serious. And possibly a little crazy.

The unintended theme of my eats yesterday seemed to revolve around two of my favourite food groups – chocolate and cheese. But not necessarily together.

I decided to test out some of my Victoria purchases, starting with breakfast.


I actually prepped this the night before – I mixed 3 tbsp of the Chocolate Chia Goodness cereal (chia, buckwheat, hemp) with 1/2 cup of almond milk, plus some frozen blueberries.


Then in the morning I topped it with 1 1/2 tbsp of Barlean’s Essential Woman Omega Swirl. It’s chocolate raspberry flavoured. Yum!


Oh, and a few sliced almonds.


With some more black currant/elderberry juice on the side.


This flavour of Chia Goodness cereal is great. Not too sweet, nice chocolate flavour, and it has little bits of dates in it, which make for a nice surprise in the bowl. But I think the serving size is out of whack. It says 2 tbsp equals one serving. Even with the three I had, I don’t think it was quite enough food to satisfy me for breakfast – I would definitely double the amount, or add more berries and nuts.

Shortly there after I was changed and off to the gym. Speaking of the gym – the night before there had been a gang shooting in the parking lot right out in front of my gym. Just minutes after my sister left that evening actually. Scary stuff. When I got there, they still had half the parking lot closed off, and a police car was parked in there, with people out cleaning up.

After all that excitement, and a sweaty weight session, I was back at home, getting ready to go to work. My shift was from 12:30 – 9 pm, which sucks major ass when trying to plan for meals. It’s almost like you have to pack 2 full meals with you, because you are there over lunch and dinner. But instead, I had a small lunch/snack before I went.


It started with a frothy Choc-a-Lot Vega Shake & Go Smoothie mixed with almond milk. So good – like chocolate milk!


I also toasted up a cheese scone, and topped it with more cheese. Because you can never have enough cheese. 


Apparently chocolate and cheese do go together.


Then I organized my assortment of eats in their respective tupperware containers to take to work.


Mom had made homemade mac & cheese the night before. It was a no-brainer that it would appear in my lunch.


There were also more of the usual suspects – carrot and cucumber (hummus for dipping).


And some leftover tomato soup. It made for such a colourful & attractive meal.


Weird thing while I was eating my soup and mac & cheese – one of my coworkers asked what I was eating, then asked me if I was a vegetarian. Because obviously if I eat a meal without meat that means I’m a vegetarian? It’s weird how people come to assumptions.

After my epic shift, I made my way home, and put my feet up to give them and my knees some much needed rest. Something about standing all day just does them in. I think if I were moving around more, they wouldn’t be so bad. I blame my advancing age for it.

Whilst relaxing, I enjoyed a little snack. But you knew that was coming.

It involved a chocolate chip pecan cookie, that was just so appealing, it didn’t make it to the photo shoot intact.


I also sliced up a fuji apple, and added a giant blob of peanut butter for dippage.


A snack to tantalize the taste buds!


Other notable items from the evening – I made salad dressing in the food processor at 10 pm. Because that’s what people do, right? You’ll have to wait to see said salad dressing until later though. I’m such a tease.

I then struggled to keep my eyes open so I could watch the Daily Show, much like my furry friend.



Sienna was too tired to even swat at me and the camera. Lazy!

    yay for momma reading ur blog and a family friend too. good to have some fans from home hehe.

    im suprised to hear the chocolate chia wasent that great! but i can understand cuz when i saw it at Lifestyles i thought it was kind of a weird thing to combine in a bag…. i only ever had the original one which was good with some almond milk.

    i feel like ur kitty right now… hehe

    I’ve seen that Chia Goodness around but man, 3 TBSP does not a breakfast make! I like really voluminous breakfast and I think 2 TBSP is like 140 calories? Thats almost as dense as nut butters! I am totally craving cheese after your reading your post – I cant remember the last time I had it as it really sets off my lactose intolerance issues, but I do miss it sometimes!

    How did your mom and friend find out about your blog? My two friends found out because I got a little sloppy – for one I left my blog up when she was over which resulted in her seeing it and then the other friend found out when I posted on her sister’s private blog while signed in to my own. Dur. My mom, dad, and sister know because I told them.

    I don’t eat cheese but it seems like something that would go very well with chocolate! Chocolate, in my opinion, goes with pretty much everything.

    That swirly stuff on your breakfast? Um, hello? How amazing does that look/sound???? I’ll have to keep an eye out for the chocolate chia but I agree that the serving size is pretty puny.

    I have been trying and trying to find a way to make that chocolate chia goodness taste good and it just hasn’t worked for me! But your blend of stuff looks yummy.
