Highlights And Lowlights

Well, look who went on an unexpected blogging hiatus? Sorry about that – the weekend got away from me, and I spent most of it fighting a head cold. I don’t know about you, but when my head feels like it’s stuffed with cotton balls, it makes it hard to think, and I definitely had no desire to write. But have no fear – my camera was still out and about, catching almost all of the tasty treats that graced my palette. We’ll get caught up highlight (and lowlight) style!

Highlight – having plans to go shopping and out for dinner with a good friend downtown.

Lowlight – said friend has to cancel because she’s sick 😦

Highlight – at least I had a rockin’ bowl of oatmeal to eat for breakfast.

Oats with rhubarb, flax, brown sugar, and the last of the Artisana Cacao Bliss jar. Plus some sunshine in a glass – mango peach orange juice.

Lowlight – a whole day off, and no idea what to do with myself.

Highlight – time for a trip to the gym, fueled by a glass of chocolate milk. And by chocolate milk, I mean Vega Shake & Go Choc-a-Lot mixed with almond milk.

Highlight – awesome Mango Sesame Salad Dressing I made the night before.

Highlight – which made my lunch salad even more awesome.

Mixed greens, red onion, raw corn on the cob, avocado, cucumber, and…

Highlight – Tempeh Bacon!

Doesn’t exactly taste like bacon, but makes an excellent salad topper. Must try in a sandwich next.

Lowlight – this cinnamon bun.

It was dry, and was seriously lacking in the sticky sweet cinnamon stuff that is pretty crucial to a good cinnamon bun.

Highlight – chocolate pecan cookie.

Lowlight – didn’t get to go to Refuel for dinner, and eat the local BC spot prawns I had my heart set on.

Highlight – Chinese take out for dinner.

Highlight – ended up at my cousin’s house to watch a movie.

Lowlight – home later than I should have been for my 9:30 am wake up on Saturday.

Lowlight – woke up with a sore throat.

Highlight – Breakfast was ready and waiting for me in the fridge.

3 tbsp Chocolate Chia Goodness, 1 smashed banana, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 tbsp oats. Topped with peanut butter and Barlean’s Chocolate Raspberry Omega Swirl.

Lowlight – working until 2, with an ever progressing headache.

Highlight – my favourite sandwich in my packed lunch.

Silver Hills “The Big 16” sprouted grain bread, avocado, hummus, and Little Qualicum Cheeseworks Herbie Fromage Frais cheese. Plus half a grapefruit.

Lowlight – felt nauseous at lunch, so I only had half the sandwich.

Highlight – 3 hour nap after work.

Highlight – felt better, made a salad similar to my lunch the day before (without the tempeh, but with cashews), and went out to a BBQ at my cousin’s house. Took advantage of the only nice day of the weekend.

Lowlight – by the time I got home, I was achy and running a fever.

Highlight – woke up feeling slightly better.

Lowlight – but had to go to work.

Highlight – cheese scone with peanut butter and raspberry jam for breakfast.

Lowlight – headache all through work.

Highlight – lunch was already made, since I had half a sandwich, and half a grapefruit from the day before.

Lowlight – rain returned, so we couldn’t BBQ dinner as planned.

Highlight – it was still damn good.

Corn on the cob, asparagus, and pork tenderloin.

Highlight – managed to get out for a walk in the evening. Also had a soak in the hot tub.

Lowlight – headache returned.

Highlight – evening snack.

Yogurt, frozen raspberries, and some more Barlean’s Chocolate Raspberry Omega Swirl. Oh yeah.

Lowlight – what a cop out post.

Highlight – we’ll be back to normal tomorrow. Night!

i’ve never seen anyone use rhubarb in oats before. i’ve been wanting to try rhubarb for a while but haven’t worked up the guts! there’s been a lot of mixed opinions about it whenever I ask people what they think of the taste…
