I Kinda Like It

Today was a rainy, dreary day. The kind where you don’t want to get out of your pajamas or leave the house. The kind where you should just be allowed to curl up under a blanket and read the day away. Someone tell me again why we are still having days like this in June? Seriously.

Alas, I was not allowed to do any of those rainy day things today, as I had to work. I even woke up somewhat early, for no good reason other than I was hungry for breakfast.

I thought about making some oats, but I wasn’t into all the effort involved. Plus mom had just picked up some fresh raisin scones. Seemed like the obvious choice to me – toasted and slathered with peanut butter and raspberry jam of course.

With the only sunshine of my day – a glass of orange peach mango juice.

Before I knew it, it was time to get ready for work. I was still in lazy rainy day mode, so my packed lunch took all of 4 seconds to put together. I grabbed a bar from my bar stash – the Kind Almond & Apricot bar.

Plus some yogurt and frozen raspberries to round out the meal.

Can you believe this is the first time I’ve tried a Kind bar? Umm, hello – why didn’t you all tell me they are amazing? The apricot flavour here was phenomenal. I was a little sad when it ended. But happy I have a different flavour kicking around in my cupboard to try, and that they are on sale this week at Choices Market. Somebody is gonna have to make a special trip there.

Work was pretty slow. Perhaps everyone else made it a “stay at home in your pj’s” kinda day? Jerks.

Lazy eats continued on into dinner. We had deli night – which really amounts to make your own sandwiches with the deli meats provided.

My creation featured turkey, ham, avocado, lettuce, dijon mustard, and Little Qualicum Cheeseworks Fromage Frais cheese, all on a whole wheat Portuguese bun.

Some veggies and hummus filled up the rest of my plate.

Lazy eats doesn’t equal bad eats.

Although it does equal lazy presentation. I probably could have placed my food better for y’all. Sorry about that.

The cookie monster showed up after dinner with a chocolate pecan cookie.

Then my sister and I took a trip to the gym, followed by a stop at Safeway to buy avocados (5 for $5). Talk about a wild and crazy evening.

By this time, my throat was angry at me. It had started acting up at work, and just kept going downhill. On the bright side, my head cold is gone. Because it’s all in my throat. I attempted to soothe it with a smoothie.

This would be a blend of Vega Sport Performance Vanilla Protein Powder, 1/2 banana, spinach, peanut butter, cocoa powder, and milk. Which according to my sister, looks like poo. Gotta love siblings.

See those little unblended bits of spinach? Even my blender was being lazy!

Alas, the smoothie did not soothe. So I had a throat lozenge. Followed by water. Then I tried to boil water with the kettle unplugged. For some reason that didn’t work out – but once I figured that out, I had some hot water, honey, and lemon. That finally seemed to help it out a bit.

So instead of me whining to you about my throat ailments, I shall sign off for the night. And you should check out my Vega Shake & Go Smoothie Giveaway. Night!

Kind bars are amazing for sure! Mama Pea has an awesome recipe for homemade ones that I’ve tried and loved….much cheaper, too!!

You got lucky, the apricot one is by far the best (in my opinion.) But the walnut date one is the only one that I’ve actually had to spit out. Way too sweet.

It’s not raining here, in fact it’s quite sunny and warm! We’ve had enough of those lazy, stay-in-pjs-all-day-because-it’s-raining around here so I am SO glad that the sun is finally out. It means that I can wear my summer dresses. 😀 I’m a dress freak but so far I only have 3 summer dresses.. that will be remedied when I go in to Vancouver next Saturday. Yess.

PS. Even though I don’t eat meat that turkey sandwich is whispering my name.

I think I’ve tried Kind bars only once or twice, but it was a while ago–guess I need to try them again soon!
