Marianne’s Music Mondays

I’ve always been a big fan of music. I think it’s my dad’s doing – he has a record collection in the thousands. I myself have amassed quite the collection of CD’s over the years. I used to go out every Tuesday, because that’s when the new albums were released, and I would pick up at least a new CD or two. And the only faithful magazine subscription I’ve had since I was 16 has been to Rolling Stone (and yes, I still have every single one I’ve received).

Alas, the CD has fallen out of popularity, and I too, have virtually stopped buying the physical product in favour of downloading from iTunes. I miss the whole unwrapping of a new CD, flipping through the booklet, and listening to each song in the order the artist determined they should be heard, finding those gems of songs that are even better than the ones released as singles. Ah, the good ol’ days.

This doesn’t mean my music collection has ceased to grow though – quite the opposite in fact.

And that isn’t even a true reflection of my collection, as I have a plethora of new music on my computer that I have yet to upload to my iPod.

Where am I going with all of this?

I want to share this love of music with you! Who doesn’t love discovering new tunes, or being reminded of old ones and the memories attached to them? And I’m sure you all have been dying to know what I’m rockin’ out to on a daily basis. Even if you haven’t, just indulge me.

So I bring to you Marianne’s Music Mondays, where we take a short break from the good eats, and indulge our ears for a few minutes.

Today’s inaugural post was inspired, by all things, our Muzak system at work. You know – the music piped in to all the retail stores to please the customers. Let’s be honest, it’s generally all pretty lame, but I heard a couple of gems yesterday that made me smile (and I was on my lunch break when I heard them – see, it all comes back to food).

Crowded House – Don’t Dream It’s Over

I just really like this song, and don’t hear it nearly often enough, but was pleasantly surprised when I heard it yesterday. It’s old, but so am I 😉

Ben Harper – Steal My Kisses

Now, I was super surprised to hear this one on the music system. It reminds me of when I was living in Australia. I was living with the family of one of the skaters on the synchronized skating team I was skating with there, and she loved this song. I think I heard it in her car countless times on one mix CD or another. In fact, I think she’s the one who turned me onto Ben Harper. This song always brings me back to my time in Australia.

Jebediah – Harpoon

Jebediah – Harpoon

Okay, so I didn’t hear this one at the store. But when I heard the Ben Harper, which reminded me of Australia, I was then reminded of this song, because it was another one I became fond of while living down there. Jebediah are an Australian band, who I don’t think ever really made it overseas, but they are worth a listen.

And to bring it all full circle – Crowded House is Australian as well. In case you didn’t know 😉

Thanks for letting me indulge in a little music fun this Monday.

PS – Anyone know anything about It seems interesting, but I’m not sure how it works.

I use at work sometimes, but I’m not really sure how it all works, either! I just kinda search out who I want and go with it…
