Naps, Lobster, Music, And More

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your week has started off great. Aside from a pesky little work shift this morning, mine sure has 🙂

Sure, I did have to get up earlier than I wanted to. Much earlier than I wanted to. I was sleepy this morning! So was Sienna – she didn’t even get out of bed when I did, and usually she does. Must be nice to be a cat.

It was slow moving this morning, so I put minimal effort into breakfast.

It started with a slice of Silver Hills “The King’s Kamut” sprouted grain bread, spread with peanut butter and marionberry jam.

Then I mixed up the lazy person’s smoothie – Choc-a-Lot Vega Shake & Go Smoothie with almond milk.

For minimal effort, it was still a good little breakfast.

I got to work a different shift today with our person in file maintenance. It basically consisted of hanging up sale signs for products, and putting together the new ones for the flyer coming out this week. It was nice to experience some different roles at the store, and to work up in the office for the day.

I had packed a lunch to take with me, because I wasn’t sure quite how long I would be at work. Turns out I wasn’t there long enough, so I ate the pasta salad at home.

But had the Kind Apricot & Almond bar at work on my coffee break.

I had packed some snap peas as well, but they remain unconsumed in the fridge.

After lunch, I needed a nap. I got comfy under the covers, thinking I might read for a bit, but promptly passed out for a good 2.5 – 3 hour sleep. It was phenomenal. By the time I woke up, the family was deciding what to do for dinner. No one wanted to make anything, so we made good use of the gift certificate my sister and I bought my dad for Father’s Day and went out to The Keg.

The Keg is a steak house, but they have a variety of other options on the menu as well. They have a lobster promotion on for the summer, so I had to take advantage of that and order the Seafood SirloinGarlic-sautéed shrimp, lobster meat and asparagus are added to a white wine tarragon cream sauce, and served on our tender grilled sirloin. It came with a baked potato, but I subbed in garlic mashed instead, and ordered a side of asparagus to share with my mom. Oh, it was soo good – the lobster was buttery and sweet, my steak was a perfect medium rare, and the potatoes were creamy and delicious (even though I only ended up eating a spoonful as I was too full!). It was an all around nice treat to go out with the family for a fancy pants dinner, especially on a Monday night.

After dinner, my sister and I went for a walk around the neighbourhood, then I hopped in the shower, and set up camp downstairs with a big mug of yerba mate tea.

And since I was feeling horribly fruit deficient, I dished up some fresh local BC raspberries, and a few glazed sesame cashews.

Yerba mate tea is where it’s at!

And I haven’t forgotten that today is Music Monday! I thought we’d kick it with a little Michael Jackson today. Not only was June 25th the anniversary of his death, but his was the first concert I ever went to…when I was 5! I was definitely the coolest kid in kindergarten by far. Now, a few of MJ tracks for you to enjoy.

I know, the obvious choice. But how can you not include this epic song and video in an MJ list?

Rock With You

Going old school! And that sequined outfit? I have no idea why that isn’t still in style.

I Want You Back (with the Jackson 5)

Even more old school than the last. I’m thinking about bring back those dance moves in the club. But first I would need to go to the club. Minor detail.

Remember The Time

This one is actually one of my favourite MJ songs. And check out the all-star cast in the video – Eddie Murphy, Imam, and Magic Johnson.

You Rock My World

He may have not been as cool by the time this song came out, but I still like it.

So, what are you favourite Michael Jackson tunes?

Half of the time we can’t even make the beds until the afternoon because there is a sleeping dog on them who refuses to move – must be nice to be a pet, huh?! You’ve got some serious nap skills! I could learn a thing or two from you!

I can’t pick a fav MJ song! I like PYT, Smooth Criminal, Man in the Mirror, Billie Jean, Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough, I could go on 🙂

Mmm…I got to try marionberries when we were in the Northwestern US. I know they are a variety of blackberry which we have here, but they have a flavor all their own. Oddly, I’ve never been a pb and jelly fan. I like them both, but seperately. I’ve tried and I can’t pick a favorite song. 🙂 I like almost all of them.

I love the food at The Keg, but sadly my tummy does not. Boo!
Hope no one throws you container of snap peas out this time! 😉

This is going to be kind of crazy but.. I was never a Michael Jackson fan. Yeah, his music is okay but I never go out of my way to listen to it.

Marionberries sound.. delicious! I’ve never heard of those before.

I’ve only been to the Keg maybe once but I got some chicken dish and it was soooo good. Thanks for the reminder, I need to hit that place up again asap!

Omg MJ. LOVE. So much. I have most of his hits on my Ipod. I can’t help but booty shake every time I hear his sweet sweet melodies. Thriller, Rock With You, Wanna Be Startin Somethin, The Way You Make Me Feel, Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough… SO many good ones.

I am all about the J5! “Want you Back” is still one of my favorite songs of all time. Have you tried making my KIND bars? You remind me that I should make a batch for my mom 🙂
