A Whole Day

First off, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. Yes, I know, it has been over a week, but I’m slow. I really appreciated them all though, and I wanted to let you know 🙂

Now, you may have noticed I’ve gotten away from posting each and every day’s eats. It’s something I’ve thought about for a bit. It was starting to feel like a chore, and a bit of a bore, to photograph and talk about everything, especially when I didn’t feel like what I had to share was that interesting. The last thing I want for the blog is to be bored or to bore you – that doesn’t make for an enjoyable experience for anyone, now does it? I want my blog to evolve naturally as my life and situation also changes. So I’m just going to go with the flow, and post as I see fit – recipes, reviews, meals, whatever. Oh, and the occasional Music Monday and Workout Wednesday of course.

All that being said – I was feeling nostalgic yesterday and did photograph every thing to share 😀 Hurray!

My morning started off bright and early as I had a lovely 8 am opening shift at work…which was also day 6 of 8 in a row. Ugh. At least I had time to make a tasty little breakfast.

Too bad it was still too dark out to get any good photos. Hmph.

No matter, my Cherry Custard Oatmeal was still delicious. Especially when topped with some almond butter.

And paired up with a glass of Happy Planet Extreme Green juice.

Even if it does look a little…cement like.

Speaking of custard oats – I still owe you a recipe. Watch for it next week 🙂

As much as I hate the whole getting up early for work, I do enjoy how quiet it is in the mornings. Plus I only had a 4 hour shift, so it went by quickly. A large kiwi (eaten with my fancy new kiwi spife – spoon + knife) was my snack on my break.

When I got home, I fuelled up with a chocolate pecan cookie

…and busted out the ol’ Insanity workouts. I must confess – when I went away to the Island, I stopped doing them. Yes, I was only a few days into the program. It was poor planning on my part. But you know what? That’s life. And I’ll just be picking up where I left off.

Post workout, it was time to get my lunch on. I picked up a treat after work to enjoy for said lunch…

Sushi! Not just any sushi though. Ninja sushi 😉

I’m hoping that means an actual Ninja made my sushi. Because that would be pretty damn cool.

Our in store sushi chefs are awesome. They’ve been turning out some pretty fancy looking combos lately, which I’ve been secretly drooling over as I see customers bring them through my til. So I decided to finally break down and pick one up for myself.

I’m not 100% sure of the exact rolls, but it appears to container a prawn and cucumber roll, topped with avocado. Which, by the way, is an excellent idea. All sushi should be topped with avocado. Yum!

There was also a California roll topped with raw salmon, tuna (?) and more avocado. And 2 pieces of nirigi – salmon and prawn.

The sushi place in our complex has recently gone out of business. I wonder why.

So fresh and flavourful. My only complaint is that they don’t seem to use wild salmon. And it would be nice if they made more of their rolls with brown rice (they only make a few veggie rolls and California rolls with brown rice). Otherwise, you really can’t beat it for take out grocery store sushi.

I also made a little chocolate purchase while at work.

Only because they were on clearance though. Mmm, chocolate.

Speaking of chocolate, I made myself a lunch dessert to satisfy the chocolate monster within. And to use up an uber ripe banana on the counter.

Cocoa Banana Tofudding!

It went from this…

…to this!

Which I promptly served up with a drizzle of Barlean’s Chocolate Raspberry Omega-3 Swirl.

It would have been better had I let it chill in the fridge for awhile, but sometimes you don’t have the patience for that.

I spent way too much of my afternoon playing a little game called Rock Band. Like…4 hours or so. I had the house to myself, how could I not rock out?!

While I did that, Sienna found a new place to sleep.

Yes, she would be sleeping in a reusable shopping bag.

She was in there for a good 4 hours herself. Cats are weird.

My parents eventually came home from their concert at the PNE. They brought back mini donuts. Aka – the most delicious thing ever.

I definitely nabbed a few.

Which left me not really wanting to make dinner, even thought I knew I should. I just couldn’t decide on what to make. Eventually I settled on a veggie burger with the usual fixin’s.

With some sweet potato wedges and a homemade garlic aioli.

Plus a little fizzy drink on the side.

Nothing fancy. Probably because it was already 9 pm when I sat down to eat!

And that, my friends, is what went down in the from french fries to flax seeds world yesterday. Until next time!

Ugh, I can totally relate to the lack of sunlight in the mornings–such an annoyance to us early-riser food bloggers:)

That is a delicious looking day! I may do a “day in eats” post myself soon…just to switch it up. I’ll be lucky if donuts are involved.

That’s the best thing about blogging, that the content evolves with you. Mine has changed over the past two years and continues to do so. That sushi looks so good! I am way over due for a sushi meal.

Our German Exchange student brought us that Ritter chocolate from Germany and she was so bummed that our local grocery store sold it!

I agree – avocado on sushi is great – but I eat the cooked stuff 😀
