This Week In Food…And Dietetics

Another week has come and gone, and I find myself here on Sunday night, tea in hand, ready to recap this week in eats. But so many interesting things have happened in school as well, so I’d like to share some of those with you. And perhaps enlighten everyone on the “situation” I mentioned in my last post.

Sadly, I’ve taken less pictures than I would like, due to circumstances beyond my control. I know everyone likes to say “oh, life has to come first over blogging”, but blogging is part of my life, and I hate when things get out of balance and I can’t commit the time I want to this activity. But, whatcha gonna do?

This Week In Food…And Dietetics

I always start out the day with the best food blogger intentions. Breakfasts seem to make it onto my camera more often than not.

And yes, I’ve been enjoying some toast with avocado for breakfasts. Try it, you’ll like it!

This week, I got to give my first group presentation of the year in in Land, Food, and Community class. Fortunately, we only have one more to do, unlike last year when we had to do 4 over the course of the year.

I’ve also enjoyed the unseasonable weather we’ve been having – some days the temperature has peaked over 20 degrees Celsius – by eating lunch outdoors at school.

I was able to attend the Health Care Team Challenge at school, where I not only learned something about inter-professional collaboration between health care professionals, but I also won a door prize – $20 gift certificate to Safeway. I gave it to my mom 🙂

I’ve eaten dinners at home and at work, although the photos have been few and far between.

I’ve eaten some snacks, sometimes in transit.

I was able to go out to my first site visit with a dietetics classmate, where we had sushi for lunch, and had a really productive and educational experience at the hospital.

I’ve also done some contest recipe creating, for which I went out and bought dishes solely for photography purposes. You know you’re a food blogger when…

I’ll let you know more about the contest later…I may need your votes!

I’ve torn my hair out (figuratively, of course), trying to compile and edit our group paper before its due date at midnight. And yes, I got it done.

Sandwich and wrap fillings have been experimented with.

And I missed out on the first social event we had organized for our dietetics class 😦

Which brings me to the “situation” (and I don’t mean that guy from Jersey Shore).

When my classmate and I went to our hospital site visit, we had parked her car on the road near the hospital. When we came back, and opened the truck to get our stuff out, we were greeted with…an empty trunk. More specifically, my backpack was gone, as well as a purchase my classmate had just made at the mall prior to our visit. Fortunately, I had taken my wallet, camera, phone, and sunglasses into the hospital with me. Unfortunately, my backpack contained the following items: jeans, jacket, iPod, extra camera battery, all of my makeup, school note books, a set of coloured pens, magazine, my house and car keys, and a few other random things. We searched the area, but didn’t find anything that might have been dumped. We filed a police report, but they can’t do anything because there is no surveillance or witnesses. The car wasn’t broken into, which means they saw us with the trunk open before we went into the hospital. And our insurance won’t cover it, because it wasn’t worth enough. Everything is replaceable, but I’m working on that whole “student budget” thing.

I’m still a bit bothered by the whole thing. It makes you feel so violated, and to know that these asshats will get away with it pisses me off. I’m the victim, and yet I’m the one out of pocket because someone needed drug money. Plus they took my favourite pair of jeans! Now I have to go jeans shopping – and we all know how much fun that is. Yeah, fun. Right.

But I don’t want to leave this post on a downer. In a mere 10 minutes it will be a brand new week. I have no major assignments due. I have a fun food blogger dinner to look forward to on Thursday. And I get to go shopping for new things. I’m going to create more delicious eats. Hockey season starts this week! And I’ll get to announce a giveaway winner tomorrow. Next week will be good.

How are you going to proactively make next week a good week?

BUMMER! Sorry to hear about the backpack!!! Our van was broken into a few years ago and although there was really nothing to steal, I was furious that someone had the nerve to come that close to my house while I was sleeping! AHHH!

All your eats look great, per usual. Interested in this whole recipe contest you’re alluding to! 😉

Ugh, that sucks. I’ve had my car broken into, and you’re right – it is the WORST feeling of violation! I’m glad, however, that they didn’t get away with your wallet.
