A Taste Of The Weekend

I feel very content with the eats I had this weekend. There wasn’t anything overly complicated, no new recipes tried out, no crazy food events to attend. Just some good, simple food, including a traditional Sunday night dinner care of my mom. I guess in a way, it mirrored my activities for the weekend. Would you like a taste?


Breakfastbanana oatmeal with milk, flax, vanilla, and a scoop of Peanut Butter & Co. Mighty Maple.


Good fuel after a delightful sleep in, for a brisk outdoor walk at Rocky Point, followed by some homework.

Lunchleftover mozzarella pizza.


Nothing fancy, but delicious in it’s simplicity. And you know, more homework fuel. Can you tell I didn’t have to work on Saturday?

Dinnerno photo, because my mom, dad, and I went out with my cousin and his wife for dinner. We hit up our old favourite – White Spot! Burgers were enjoyed by all. But when don’t I enjoy a burger from White Spot? They are my go-to place for a great burger. This time I passed on my usual BC (bacon cheddar) burger, and ordered one of the feature burgers – the Portobello Provolone Veggie Burger, described as “Our chargrilled veggie burger with provolone cheese, Portobello mushrooms, grilled peppers, zucchini, and onions, lettuce, and house-made lemon basil aoili.”  What’s not to like?! After dinner, we came back to our place, and we checked out all of my parents’ photos from their trip to Egypt and Jordan. Totally made me wish I had gone to experience it all, and take photos.



Breakfastcranberry oatmeal, with milk, flax, vanilla, Mighty Maple, and another secret ingredient. I’ll let you guess what you think it is.


It was a rainy, grey morning, so this was pure comfort food.

Lunchno photo, as I was at work all day. But over the course of my 7 1/2 hour shift, I had some Greek yogurt with blueberries and granola; veggies with spinach & artichoke hummus, and a brown rice California roll. A day with sushi is always a good day.

Dinner – Sunday dinner! Mom made a roast, with potatoes, green beans, acorn squash, and gravy.


So nice to come home to on a cold, dark, rainy October evening. I don’t even know when the last time we had roast beef was. That’s a lie, I just searched the blog – turns out it was back sometime at the end of April/beginning of May. There ya go.

    wow that’s a long stretch without any roast beef! and…secret ingredient…ermmmm…i think i spy maple syrup, perhaps?

    also, i know you didn’t mention this at all and i feel kind of dumb for saying it, but i feel really bad for all the great whites out there (the headline on the paper beside your breakfast). thinking about all the animals that humans are helping to extinguish just makes me sick. oyyyy…:/

    I ate a great omlette for dinner with butternut squash, roasted red peppers and provolone AND watched on as Noah scored not one, but TWO goals in Saturday’s game! 🙂

    Sounds like you had a fairly low key weekend, too. Nice!

    Looks like you had a good weekend!

    I had cran-apple oats Fri-Sun. To paraphrase Averie, it’s a groove, not a rut!! At various points over the weekend, I also made pizza, hummus, (skinning garbanzos is a pain, and I’m not convinced it was worth it) and lazy mooshoo (microwave steamed cabbage with hoisin sauce and rotisserie chicken).

    And I finished reading The Passage, which I really enjoyed. Now I just have to wait gawd knows how long for the next book to be published…

    I always look forward to Sunday dinner when I’m at home–my sisters and their husbands all come over with their dogs, and my mom will make a big batch of chili or spaghetti. Love it!
