Slurp & Soothe

Oh faithful blog readers, fall is upon us, and with it comes cold season. And alas, I have fallen victim to one annoying head cold, complete with sore throat, headache, and all the trimmings. It sucks. I don’t know about you, but it causes my tastes and cravings to go awry, and all I want to do is carb load or eat things that make my throat feel better. That, and drink umpteen mugs of tea.

Today was a carb loading day. But I won’t bore you with that. Instead I’m bringing you Friday, which was all about soothing that sore throat.

In all honesty, I probably should have stayed in bed instead of going to school, but because I have one class that I only have on Fridays (and it’s my Dietetics Professional Practice class), I just can’t bring myself to not go, regardless of how crappy I’m feeling. So up I got, and put on my game face. I wasn’t overly hungry, so I made the quickest throat soother I could – a choco-cherry smoothie.

If I’d had some time, I would have probably made tea to take with me to school, but it was not to be. So off to school I went, where I attended my two classes and was plagued by a rumbling belly part way through. Apparently the above smoothie will not keep you satiated for 5+ hours until you get back home. The only food I had with me was a Kind Nut Delight bar. Delicious in its own right, but not the best option for a sore throat. At least it kept me from eating my arm off on the way home on the bus.

As I was heading home, I kept thinking how good a bowl of chicken noodle soup would be for lunch. Knowing we had none at home, nor the ingredients to make said soup with, I made a pit stop.

Hey, if you are gonna get chicken noodle soup, may as well make it good, and not that canned crap.

I needed something to dunk in my soup, so I toasted up a Silver Hills Flax Bagel, spread on a little buttah, added cucumber slices, and salt & pepper to taste. Toasted cucumber sammies are where it’s at!

I had to add the cheddar cheese slices. Something about chicken noodle soup makes me want cheese, whether it’s in a sandwich, with crackers, or on it’s own. No point in fighting it.

I probably should have followed lunch with a nap, but instead I ended up wasting time playing Rock Band 3. Sometimes a girl has gotta rock. And then I fell asleep watching the news.

When I woke up, dinner had magically appeared.

Ah yes, our household go to take out meal – Chinese food. We ordered from the place I don’t like much, and the food was overly sauced. Normally, I would be less than impressed, but it made it for a more sore throat friendly meal. Plus there were more noodles to slurp.

Too bad it made me feel like ass afterwards. Sub par Chinese food is never worth it in the end.

The rest of my lazy evening was spent lounging in front of the TV, working on school work, and consuming multiple glasses of chamomile tea. Which seemed to actually make my stomach feel better, so that was a bonus.

    I always crave soft boiled eggs with toast when I’m feeling under the weather. And any soup, of course!

    I crave tomato soup that’s been cooked too long so it gets that “skin” on top. With crackers for dipping, mmmm mm.

    I crave canned crappy soup….Campbel”s Chicken Noodle! It’s the only time I eat it….
