Christmas Week 2010 – The Confession

I have a confession to make.

As much as I love the Christmas season and all the things that come with it, there are some things I just don’t like. The flavours of Christmas. Specifically, all of those festive holiday treats.

There, I said it. Traditional Christmas baking, candies and the lot – they aren’t my thing.

Not in my glass.

Mincemeat pies and tarts? No thanks. Fruitcake is also a no go.

They may look cute…

…but you can keep them.

Rum balls? Way to waste perfectly good chocolate. And perfectly good rum for that matter (also applies to eggnog).

And candy canes?

Don’t get me started on candy canes.

I like my mint in a few things – gum, toothpaste, some teas, and perhaps a tasty mojito. That’s about it. And yet every year people insist on handing candy canes out like they are going out of style.

I know what you’re thinking. Way to be a “Bah Humbug” right?

I’ll tell you what I do like.

Advent Calendars. Totally awesome. And portion controlled to boot!

Shortbread is pretty freakin’ tasty. As are sugar cookies. Who doesn’t need a little extra dose of butter and sugar come December?

And then there’s the chocolates. So many chocolates. So little time.

Are there any other decidedly Christmas-y treats that I’ve missed? Because it probably means I don’t like them 😉

Let me know your favourite traditional Christmas treats, and any you think are just completely overrated. I can’t be the only one!

Wow, it’s like you read my mind about Christmas flavours. I always really really want to like gingerbread, but whenever I have some I’m slightly disappointed. I have never liked egg nog. ew. just ew.
I like sugar cookies, but short bread isn’t really my thing either.
But chocolate? Hmmmmm oh yeah. I love that stocking stuffer.

Egg nog=totally overrated! Even the light and soy versions are just loaded with sugar and not all that tasty. I am all about anything pumpkin-related though–I am nibbling on some pumpkin bread as I type!

Traditional candy canes are not my thing, but I like the ones that do not taste like mint. And I’ll take any gingerbread/short bread/sugar cookie/chocolate you’ll give me! LOL
