This is a question I often pose to, well, anyone around me who will listen when I have the urge to bake. It would be easy to just pull out some of my tried and true go-to recipes every time I want to whip up a sweet treat, but it’s so much fun to try out new recipes. Plus I figure if someone tells me what they want me to make, I automatically have a taste tester lined up to shower me with praise…because obviously everything I bake turns out perfect every time 😉
I (not so) recently posed this question to one of my good friends I was going to be visiting. I figured if I was bringing them treats, it should be something they would like. The answer I received was “why not make a bar of some sort”.
Because I have a small chocolate addiction (who doesn’t?!), brownies were the first thing that popped to mind. But plain ol’ brownies are, well, boring. So I upped the ante and decided to make cream cheese brownies. Oh yes I did.
Too lazy to look through my piles of cookbooks, I went to Google, where I was bestowed with a recipe by Martha Stewart. You can’t go wrong with a Martha recipe (click here for the details).
Ingredients assembled, I set out to make these rich, fudgy, chocolate delights.
As always, I melt my chocolate over direct heat. I know, I know, I should use a double boiler to avoid disaster, but I like living on the edge. And I’ve yet to ruin a pot of chocolate. Totally not cocky in my chocolate skillz.
There might be a touch of sugar in there, to go with the tidbit of butter. Health food, these are not. Which is okay – because they are brownies!
My favourite part – swirling the cream cheese mixture into the chocolate mixture. It’s like playing with your food!
Soon enough I was graced with a pan of perfectly baked, gooey in the middle, deliciously decadent brownies. And a sunny morning perfect for a photo shoot on the front porch!
Don’t you just want to take a bite?
My mom devoured two pretty much out of the pan. And my friend thought they were basically amazing as well. If you are looking for a cream cheese brownie recipe, Martha’s the man – er, woman.
My question to you now – What should I bake?
