Stressed out? Feeling down in the dumps? Life just generally not going your way? Then perhaps you need a little something to brighten your day!
What could be more cheerful than a lemony sugar cookie? Especially when it’s a giant happy face!
Someone very important in my life had been having a tough run of events, and needed a little cheering up. I wanted to do something to brighten their day, and the first thing that comes to mind is bake something – because let’s be honest, I’m one of those people who definitely shows their love through food.
I’m not even really sure why I decided upon sugar cookies. Probably because I knew they would be the easiest thing to decorate into a big happy face. And who doesn’t like a sugar cookie?
Being the overachiever that I am, I couldn’t *just* make a sugar cookie. So I added some lemon zest to the dough, and made a sunny yellow lemon frosting. Add a dusting of edible gold powder, and some dark chocolate for the features, and you have yourself one great “cheer me up” cookie!
Of course, the cookie didn’t quite use up all the sugar cookie dough, so I busted out some random cookie cutters, and made regular sized cookies.
We only had yellow and red food colouring, so my decorating options were limited. Hence the yellow, orange, and pink.
As you can see, my frosting ability is what I like to call “rustic” – which really just means I suck at it. Perhaps that means I just need to make cookies and frost them more often?
So back to the giant happy face cookie…how was it received? Well, it might not have solved all the problems at hand, but it definitely brought out a big smile, so I’d say it did its job. Sometimes the simplest of gestures mean the most.
Don’t worry, be happy!
