Can you believe it has been 10 days since the beginning of the BioSnacky Sprouting Challenge? Remember those seeds I so dutifully placed in my brand new sprouter? Well, I managed to treat them right, give them enough water and sunshine, and I was rewarded with a bounty crop of lovely homegrown sprouts!
Mung bean sprouts
Alfalfa sprouts
It was really fun to check in on my sprouts every day to see just how they were progressing. It helped that after 1 day, I was already seeing results.
In fact, if you have been following me on Twitter (@fache79), and on Instagram, you would have seen almost daily updates on my sprouting progress with picutres, comments, and how I was using up all of those little nutritional gems. In fact, I recommend going back and checking out not only my updates, but those of my fellow #bioSnackySprouts Challenge bloggers (use that hashtag to search for all of our posts).
One thing I learned is that radish sprouts are hairy. In fact, I thought mine had gone moldy, and I threw them out and started again. Turns out I should have done a quick Google search, as it would have saved me wasting what were perfectly good sprouts. But hey, you live and learn right? The great thing was I still had time to sprout another batch and try them out before the challenge was over.
As you can see, I had a lot of sprouts on my hands, so I had to get creative in the kitchen. The boyfriend isn’t really into sprouts, so it was all on me to make sure I didn’t waste them. I definitely had my fair share of sandwiches and wraps stuffed with alfalfa sprouts.
But one can only eat so many sprouty sammies before they get bored (or maybe that’s just me). I found that alfalfa sprouts work really well in green smoothies!
You can definitely smell the sprouts in there, but it’s not unpleasant. And its a great way to consume a whole whack of sprouts in one sitting.
My mung bean sprouts found themselves in the hot seat when I added them a quick week night stir fry. They added so much more texture and personality than those white sprouts you find in the grocery store.
And because my radish sprouts were a little late to the party, their fate was as a simple salad topper on a hot summer afternoon. They added a nice peppery kick – a little goes a long way!
It was really fun to have the chance to experiment with sprouting in my own kitchen, and I was impressed with just how damn easy the whole process was. I don’t know that I would ever sprout 3 full trays of seeds at the same time again though – that’s a lot of sprouts for one gal to consume, and they are something I enjoy on occasion, not with every meal. But I think I will keep on sprouting from time to time, and seeing what other seeds I can try out in there.
Now…I don’t want to have all the sprouting fun around here. And as luck would have it – I received one A.Vogel Canada BioSnacky Glass Jar Sprouters to giveaway to one of my wonderful readers (yes, this could be you!). It also comes with a sample pack of seeds to get you started.
You can enter one of 3 ways:

The contest will run until 11:59 pm PST on Sunday, July 7th, and the winner will be announced the next day. I will use Random.org to select the winner. And as I may have to ship the winner their prize, I am limiting the contest to readers in Canada only (sorry to all of my other readers!)
Also, if you want to talk all things sprouts, and have more chances at winning your very own A. Vogel BioSnacky sprouting system, join us on Tuesday, July 2 at 6pm PST for a Twitter party – you can find all the details here.
Disclaimer – I received all of the bioSnacky spouting supplies free of charge from A.Vogel Canada as part of a promotion for Canadian food bloggers. All opinions are, of course, my own.

I’ve always wanted to try growing my own sprouts. I have no set recipes right now, but would set my search engine on fire looking for some if I won
I’m new to growing sprouts but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for so long. I’d add them to salads and soups.
I have recently joined a “move to healthy choices” committee in my city; I am a concession operator in a sports facility and it’s my goal to provide more healthy choices to my customers because after all..”you are what you eat” and since it’s a sports facility, I believe it’s important for the athletes in the facility to eat healthy. The sprouts would be a wonderful addition to my healthy sandwich choices!
I would enjoy them in salads and at them at the end of stir fries, I actually like the taste of them. It’s better then the taste of wheatgrass. I also liked you on Facebook. 🙂
They look Yummy in wraps! Would love to try sprouting!
I would love to try sprouting with my children. I would throw them in sandwiches, wraps, spring rolls and salads. I also like you on facebook.

It all looks delicious!! Be sure to wash your sprouts well before consumption. Working in a micro lab, we see some dirty sprouts (microbes can be present in the seeds too).
It does actually say to do so in the growing instructions. Gotta love food safe!
Oooh sprouts! I love sprouts in wraps and sandwiches. No creative recipes, just good and simple sandwiches.
I’d add them to a salmon/edamame/arugula/avocado salad

When I grow sprouts they usually don’t make it into a recipe, I just grab a fist full when I wander past. Radish sprouts are awesome!
