A Smoothie A Day

A smoothie a day for the month of August. This is the challenge I have just accepted!


I saw this challenge via Twitter last night, and thought, hey, I like smoothies. I bet I could actually have smoothie a day for an entire month no problem!


The August Colourful Smoothie Challenge is being hosted by Charissa over at Colourful Palate. I think she may love smoothies even more than I do. All I have to do is have a smoothie every day, and tweet a picture. Simple as that. Plus there are even some pretty cool prizes up for grabs.


I figure this is a great way to utilize all the amazing summer fruit we still have available, and revisit some of my old smoothie recipes, such as:

You should check out the challenge and join in! Not only will your blender get a good workout, but you’ll be sure to fuel yourself with all sorts of great fruits, veggies, nuts, dairy, or whatever other creative ingredients you like. And you never know, you may even win some pretty cool prizes.


And I even have a new smoothie recipe to share with you – I came up with this after pitting and freezing some local BC cherries last week. It’s chocked full of cherry goodness, with a little hint of chocolate to make it extra special.


Cherry Bomb Smoothie

serves 1 as a meal, 2 as a snack

Cherries are in season here in BC, and this smoothie is a great way to enjoy their sweet yet tart flavour. Cacao nibs add just a hint of chocolate, and that maca powder gives you a caramel undertone. Be sure to buy extra cherries, pit them, and freeze them so you can enjoy this smoothie any time of year!


  • 1 cup frozen, pitted cherries
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non – I went with almond milk)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used North Coast Naturals Iso-Protein)
  • 1 tbsp cacao nibs
  • 1/2 tsp maca powder

1. Add all ingredients to your blender. Whiz away until it is completely blended and smooth. Enjoy!

    That’s a good idea, smoothies are so yummy in the summer 🙂 I love frozen cherries plain and just a little defrosted.
