Welcome to 2015!

Happy New Year everyone! How has 2015 been treating you so far? Hopefully you all had a fun-filled New Year’s Eve, and things are off to a great start 2 days in to the year. I’m already back at work – I hope some of you had the foresight to take January 2nd off, and get in a nice long weekend before getting back the grind.

Sienna is lucky – chillaxin’ is her daily grind!

The beginning of a new year is always a popular time to reflect on things you’d like to accomplish in the next 365 days – set some goals, or resolutions as they are often referred to. And it makes sense – a new year seems like an automatic fresh start from everything that happened last year. It’s a milestone you can see on a calendar. It gives you what seems like a very official day to start things. And while I don’t tend to set my own New Year’s resolutions or goals, I do like to reflect on some things I’d like to do during the next 12 months. They aren’t really goals, but more ideas I want to keep in the back of my head, and think about as I make decisions and go about my daily tasks through 2015.

Clean out my cupboards. Organize my computer files. Jot down ideas so I don’t forget them. There are so many things that could be better organized in my life, to make things more productive, save time, save money, and waste less. I’ve taken steps to organize little things – bins for recycling, a fancy new life planner, a weekly calendar to meal plan on. This year I want to continue to build on that, and seek out tools and systems that work for me.

While I’m great at procrastinating and having lazy days, I’m not so good at relaxing. Just ask my boyfriend – he would whole-heartedly agree with this. I want to unplug more. Drink more tea. Do more yoga. Take bubble baths in my rarely used soaker tub. Maybe get a massage on a regular basis. Read for fun. Stroll in nature more. Maybe even play video games again!

I’m not just talking about adventures to faraway lands – chances are there will be no big overseas trips this year for me. But exploring things closer to home – more of northern BC, more of the local Prince George parks and trails, more local businesses, restaurants, cultural events. I want to bring my camera with me more, and explore my passion for photography, outside of taking the perfect shot for a recipe blog post. I want to explore new directions my career might take – network, seek our new learning opportunities, develop some of the blog and business ideas in my head. Research further schooling paths – a Master’s is always in the back of my brain. And continues to develop my culinary skills by utilizing my every expanding cookbook collection more – I already know I want to make Phở scratch.

This is what I want my 2015 to be about – some simple concepts that I can apply to everyday to enrich my life and grow as a person. I may set some goals throughout the year, and I may challenge myself to some very specific things, but they won’t be tied to a New Year’s promise. I want to take things as they come. Perhaps some life changing events will happen this year, and perhaps they won’t. And I’m okay with that. Here’s to a great year ahead!
