My name is Marianne, and I’m a 30-something born and raised west coaster. I am a Registered Dietitian, currently living in Prince George, BC, where I work with children and families to make positive, long lasting healthy lifestyle changes. I have a love for all things food, and love sharing my kitchen creations to inspire others to embrace cooking and eating real food.   

In addition to my passion for food, nutrition, and science, I enjoy exploring and travelling, photography, and cheering on my favourite hockey team (Go Canucks Go!) In another life (far too many years ago now) you could find me gliding around an ice rink and competing in synchronized skating – I hope one day to have the time and funds to go back. I like to read non-fiction, listen to rock music, and just enjoy life with my friends and family. I have a dry, sarcastic wit that doesn’t always translate well in writing. Oh yeah, and my mom says I’m cool.

I could go on, but this is already turning into a personal ad (and I’m sure the boyfriend doesn’t want any competition). You’ll just have to read the blog to learn more!


My Food Philosophy

IMG_1398“Eat food you enjoy. Eat to feel good.”

It’s that simple really. I think everyone should eat foods they enjoy. Just because something is a “super food” doesn’t mean you need to force yourself to eat it. If you don’t like the food, don’t eat it. It also means enjoy those foods that might not be considered healthy. Do you love chocolate cake? Eat it. French fries? Go for it! But here’s where the "Eat to feel good” part comes in. If foods don’t make you feel good, then is it worth eating? If you feel sluggish after eating a ton of fried food, or have an upset stomach after ingesting a bunch of sugary treats, then that’s not where you want to be. To me, the “Eat to feel good” part is where you find your balance between nutrition and pure eating pleasure (and who’s to say the two are mutually exclusive).

The Food I Eat

I’m pretty inclusive when it comes to foods in my diet. I can’t think of many foods I won’t eat, as long as they are prepared in a way I enjoy. Other than cilantro – that stuff is just vile! I have no allergies, and no real label for my diet. I guess you could say I’m an “everythingtarian” if you need to go that route. I strive to eat real, wholesome foods whenever possible, preferably local and ethical, but I’m not about being perfect. Nothing is ever off limits if that’s what I truly want.

    What a great story. I wish you the best of luck in pursuing your dream of being an RD. I am seriously considering going back to school to get my RD, however unlike you I didn’t take the many science courses that are necessary so I’ll have quite a few classes to take before I would even be admitted into a program.

    Jennifer – the camera I’m currently using is the Canon EOS Rebel (model number DS6041). It’s a digital SLR camera, but it’s an older model than the new ones that Canon has out right now. It’s only 6.0 megapixels, but it still take excellent photos. I love the camera, especially for travelling, but I would like to pick up a good point and shoot as well, because this one can be a bit cumbersome to take around to parties, restaurants, etc.

    Really glad you were able to find and follow your passion! I love your philosophies about food! I’m another dietitian and I have similar views, although sometimes I will admit that I can be particular, especially when it comes to organics and chemicals and artificial ingredients.
